Question about Gigabyte Computers & Internet

Motherboard will not start

I have a new build with gigabyte ga-ma790gp-ud4h motherboard, amd athlon 64 x2 5000 cpu, zalman cnps9500a cpu cooler, g.skill ddr2 pc2-6400 memory (2x2G), rosewill 850 power supply. Board will not start, case fans and cpu fan comes on for about 1-2 seconds then shut off. Using onboard video. Power supply, cpu and memory have been tested and all run in other systems. Any suggestions? Thanks!

No short, board is sitting on bench now out of the case since I pulled it to check for a short. This is the second board, I returned another with the exact same problem so most likely it's not the board. Still looking for help.

No bios jumper. I do realize that there can be 2 different boards or anything else that won't work but the fact that these 2 boards had the exact same defect would be really unusual. I still feel that there is something else causing the problem, however I could be wrong there too, not the first time! Thanks for the reply.

It seems like there could be a short in the system. Check to make sure that the board is tight in the case, and that no foreign objects are causing the motherboard to short. If there is no obvious problem and the motherboard is new, I would return it as a defect.

If there's a bios reset jumper try resetting that. A new motherboard that doesn't work is usually a bad sign, I've had faulty hardware replaced with faulty hardware - it's rare, but it happens.

The motherboard will support this CPU, with the F1 bios.
I can only advise, that IF your motherboard was working ok before you put the new CPU in, it must be the new cpu you bought.

If this is the 1st CPU you have tried, there is a chance the board is damaged

Post screen scrambled, seems to be temperature related. I.E. low temperature, scrambled screen-warm temperature normal post screen. desk top pc, GA-MA790GP-UD4H, AM2 Quad CPU,4Gb Ram,GeForce6645 Graphics,...

Looks like an electrical contact problem. Try pulling out and re-inserting all the removable elements, especially the memory modules. When you instert them, make sure to push them firmly into their sockets until the side latches click in place, and wiggle every module gently to make sure it's properly seated in the socket.
If removing and installing back memory and expansion cards doesn't help, it may be a broken track on the board, a problem with some socket itself (processor, memory, cards...) or some other parts on the board, like capacitors, power transistors or such.

Try reapplying the thermal paste. Make sure it is a thin layer evenly spread across CPU. Also make sure you have good airflow through your case. And check your BIOS to make sure your fan will spin up faster to regulate temperature.
