Re: Display screen on DS Lite

Top screen relacement is not to difficult if you can do basic soldering for the speakers. The ribbon cable is a little bit of a pain to get into the small hole but there are plenty of articles on the web on hoe to od so. I did mine in about 30 minutes. The triabgualr screws are the hard part if you do not have the tool but you can purchase that as well online.

Re: Display screen on DS Lite

I had this same problem on my Lite earlier this year.  It was still under warranty, so I sent it in to Nintendo repair, who replaced the hinge assembly.  Based on the symptom and the repair, I suspect it's caused by a loose/damaged ribbon cable between the upper screen and the rest of the Lite.

I'd be leery of trying to fix it yourself (I've worked on similar problems in laptops), but if your Lite is out of warranty, you might try one of the third-party repair services.  Depending on whether the ribbon cable is damaged or just loose, they may not even need any replacement parts.

When i turn on my DS the top screen is blank then it turns white and stays like that, i don;t know what's wrong

If your booting to a GBA game, there us a setting in the machine BIOS to tells it to use the top or bottom screen. You can access it by taking out the games and booting the unit.

If your booting a DS game, it should display on both. If not, it is possible a wire has come loose on the display (or the screen went bad).

You can try and check for the wire yourself or take it to a repair shop. If you bought it recently call Nintendo.

My 8 yr. old daughter left here ds lite in the rain

Go to the retailer you bought it from and if you bought it less than two years ago you can get a new one free with the exchange of the old one only if you have the warranty

DS Lite Top screen is all white after replaced for new one

you should use a crystal casing because every time you open the ds the wires get messed up or put some thing on the hinge so the ds hinge will not get loose.

Turns on and lights up but no images on top screen

The DS top screen has two components, which are the LCD display, and the backlight. If the LCD display has gone bad but the backlight still works and the connecter is seated properly, the DS will still power on and the lower screen will be normal, and the top screen will light, but it won’t display anything.

You didn’t mention if your DS is the original DS or the DS Lite. Replacement top screens for the DS Lite are cheap on eBay, but installing the screen is a bit complex. The screen for the original DS is a different part and they are more expensive and hard to find.

I’ve never worked on an original DS, so I can only tell you about installing the top screen on a DS Lite.

First, the DS Lite has to be just about completely disassembled. You have to completely remove the top and bottom cases, pull out the microphone and wi-fi cables, and release the connecter for the top screen, which is located on the main board in the lower case. You’ll need the tri-wing screwdriver. You can leave the bottom screen/touch screen assembly attached to the main board, but be careful not to pull or tear the flex cables. Check YouTube for videos on disassembling the DS Lite.

Here’s the deal breaker for most people: The speakers are soldered to the flex cable of the top screen. I’ve never seen a replacement sold with speakers. You’ll have to unsolder your speaker wires from the old screen cable and reconnect them to the new one. If you can’t solder, you could take the screens to a local tv/electronics repair shop and pay to have it done. I got this information for you from this appears to be a common problem I hope this helps

Top Screen of DS Lite broken

Replace upper screen and the Upper front bezel.
Or replace the upper screen and the complete DS Lite Housing. You can find them on the well known auction sites. Please be aware that you must know what your are doing. If in doubt, send it to Nintendo or a local Nintendo repair service

My nintendo ds lite top screen isn't working properly

Top LCD's flex cable that passes through right-hand hinge into bottom part of case will be damaged or not properly seated in its connector socket.
