Question about Lexmark X5650 All-in-One InkJet Printer
Hi, my name is Charlotte....today I brought a lexmark printer from Target Department Store and I don't know zelch about the printer. It said it came with one black & red cartriages. I can't find where the cartriages are. I look at the illstration, but I'm still confused. I need help also with installing the software for copying, scanninng, faxing and printing from my computer. Can you help me or not and is it free.
This is the free section. Hopefully you can get enough information here to get you set up.
To begin with go to this site: http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi
In the "Search by Model" block, enter your model, X5650. Either click on the dark gray shaded selection that appears or click on Search.
That will take you to the Lexmark support page for your printer. Next click on the "How-To's" tab near the center of the page. There will be a selection that says, "How to change the cartridges on Lexmark inkjet and All-in-one printers." Click on this link. The page that will open is one that gives clear pictures and animations to install your ink cartridges. Color goes in the right carrier and the black goes in the left.
For installation instructions you may go to this page to access a user guide:
X5650 User Guide
Go through all of the setup instructions and then go to the software installation instructions on page 30.
If you insert the software CD and get a "New Hardware Found" window, close it, then proceed with the installation.
If you need more help, use the Comment button and let us know.
Thanks for using Fixya.

All, off the cuff advise on this forum is free.
That being said, we tend to jump on the paid solutions first then get after the free ones during slow times. Therefor if you have time and are patient the free forum will do fine, if you are in a hurry or want to Chat live to a support tech like myself and work through the problem during a live chat(faster) it cost $19.99 but we will stay on the line unil we work through the troubles and get you up and running.
Lexmark does offer limited free support as well for their products but hold times can be long and depending on where you're from it may or may not be available.
As for starting you off, If you have found the ink cartridges in the packaging(usually stuffed into or taped to the foam). and followed the setup flyer that shows you how to remove the tape and power it up, then you can open the lid of the unit(including the scanner) and you should see two coloured carriers slide into the middle of the opening. Push down on them and they will open up. Then remove the cartridges from the foil packs and remove the tape from the copper section. Now slide them into the same colour carriers and close the lids.(link below will open a setup guide, then click on the "Setting Up The Printer" section and scroll down to page 17, it has pictues that should help).
once you've done this, pop the setup disk in the dvd drive on your computer and fllow the onscreen instructions. Don't plug in the USB cord until the program that pops up tells you to and you should be ok.
If you require more detailed assistance with this(ie Chat session), feel free to click on my name at the top of this solution, if I'm online and available the page it takes you to will have an "Ask Me" button under it, when you click it you will need to agree to pay the charges but I will be happy to walk you through in more detail.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
