Try respring it (central + power buttons together and then connect to iTunes in safe mode, choose full restore (it will erase everything but if you have back up can be restored).

How did you enter dfu? do you have Leopard 10.5.6 or Windows?
    Try this :
    1. Turn the iPhone OFF.

    2. Plug in the USB cable into the computer, but not into the phone.

    3. Hold HOME and POWER buttons

    4. As soon as you are holding the HOME and POWER buttons, plug in the USB connector.

Stucked dfu mode iphone 3g

Open redsnow, click extras, and select Custom iPSW. A dialog window should pop up, go to where you have the ORIGINAL iPhone 3G 4.2.1 iPSW and select it. Press ok and It should then create a NO_BB iPSW in the same location as where the original iPSW is. Second step is to enter PWNed DFU mode. Open redsnow again, click extras and select PWNed DFU mode. Follow the onscreen instructions and you should be in PWNed DFU mode. Open iTunes and a message should show stating that your device is in recovery mode. Great now press ok, hold Shift and click Restore. A dialog box should show, go towhere the NO_BB iPSW is. Click it and press ok. Your device should now be restoring. Afterwards your device should turn on.

My iphone won't turn on

Try plugging it into a computer and putting it into DFU mode or recovery mode. If you search how to do so on youtube there are step by step directions. If it does enter DFU or recovery mode then restore the iphone.

Try to get the iphone into DFU mode and restore the phone from a previous backup, did you try to update to ios4?

To put the iPhone into DFU mode so you can do an iTunes firmware restore follow these steps:

Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac or PC.

Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

The iPhone screen will remain black like this:

NOTE***: It may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, I hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before I think the Apple logo would appear. If you are still holding both buttons down and you see the Apple logo you are holding them down for too long!

Apple symbol stays on screen

Please try to reboot your iPhone by holding both the sleep/wake and Home buttons together for at least 10 seconds. If this does not work, you can do a DFU restore.

DFU restore can be done by plugging the phone into the sync cable and opening itunes. Then hold Home and Power for 7sec (until the screen blacks out) then at that point you release the power button but keep holding home. Keep holding it until you see itunes detect a phone in DFU mode. From there you can restore and then use the option to restore the phone from your latest itunes backup once the firmware has been restored.

I will appreciate your rating for this free question.

I replaced the screen on my cracked iPhone 3G. The phone turned on and worked fine, but the home button was unresponsive. So i took the screen/LCD out to check the connections. The phone turned back on and...

put it on DFU mode. then, try to restore it using iTunes.

I believe that you have a problem w/the home button. maybe it's pressed all the time, so the phone cannot boot.

try dismatling the screen again, and check the home button contacts.

if you think the contacts are not ok, try to replace the home button.

if yo thinks there's no problem with the home buttons, try to enter to DFU mode:

1. turn off and connect the iphone to the USB.
2. press and hold power button for 5 sec
3. press and hold power and home button for 10 sec
4. leave the home button pressed until the computer recognize the iphone as a DFU device.
5. restore with iTunes.

Cheers,
Gery

if you don

I have an iphone 2g, and it takes forever to turn on, up to hours and the screen just apears with the apple and the loading sign, and it keeps turning off and on. and when it finally turns on and then...

Restoring your iPhone should help regain full functionality but please beaware this will completely wipe your iPhone memory so be sure to do a full sync and backup before you do anything.

  1. With your iPhone on connect it to your P.C/Mac using the USB cable
  2. Turn your iPhone off
  3. Press and hold the home button while turning your iPhone on
  4. Your PC/Mac should then detect your iPhone in "DFU mode".
  5. iTunes will also detect your iPhone in "DFU mode" and allow you to select restore.
This can take up to 2 hours so be patient.

DFU means Device Firmware Update. If a restore using Recovery Mode doesn't work you will want to use DFU Mode as a last resort. When placing your iPhone into DFU Mode it does not load the OS before attempting the restore

Iphone will not restore

Try restoring in DFU mode, which is different than recovery mode. I happened to stumble across it while trying to restore an iPhone 3G that a user unplugged in the middle of the 3.1 update. It kept showing an error of 1611 or 13 and wouldn't restore in recovery mode. I found this DFU mode option and the restore worked fine. The DFU mode keeps the iPhone OS from loading, so you don't run into as many compatibility problems. Go into DFU mode, then try restoring the phone and see if that works.

To enter DFU mode:
1. Connect your iPhone to your computer
2 . Turn iPhone off. You may have to hold the power and home buttons down together to force the phone off
3. Once the phone is off, hold the power and home buttons together for 10 seconds exactly
4. After 10 seconds, release the power button but keep holding home until the computer recognizes that a USB device was plugged in
5. iTunes should detect your iPhone correctly, and also allow you to restore to the factory default settings
