Question about Autodesk AutoCAD 2007

Autocad 2007 causes PC to freeze, may be graphics card related?

Hi,

I'm running Windows XP professional 32 bit on my machine at work.
My Graphics card is - Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS.

When I'm running Autocad 2007, after working for a couple of hours, my computer completely freezes and I have to hard reboot it. The problem then repats itself every few hours, again and again...

I tried updating the driver using Nvidia's "GeForce/ION Driver Release 185", but then the display got messed up (4 color, very small resolution), I attmepted to change the display settings but it didn't let me. So I rerolled to the old driver. the issue still persists.

Does anyone know how to resolve this? I have no idea what's causing the freeze, it happens randomally unrelated to a specific "action" I'm giving in Autocad/windows.

Thanks!
-Dylan.

I followed the advice and tried the following:

video accelerator - brought it down half way.
Reattempted to install new driver - same problem happened - after the restart the screen was in 4 colors, very small resolution and was nonadjustable. So I had to rollback the old driver again.

Now, the computer crashes even more often when I run autocad.../sigh

Do I need a new graphics card or something? What's the solution to this?

I feel you are right on target with the Video. I was thinking you could back off on video accelerator .
right click open area of the desk top-right click-properties-settings-advance-troubleshoot...
then take your slide about half way back and click apply and ok....
I would try and resteat the vid card and give the drivers another shot, if you can download them from another source such as major geek.com
hope this helps...please leave rating

Yes, that is what I would try next, a new video card...make sure you check out the compatibility issue between WIN XP and VISTA, and something that plays nicely with your motherboard.

One more thought- check with AutoCad and see if they have any patches- they may be aware of this situation of freezing computers.

Not possible. Programs are pre-built in machine code to the specific platform, they cannot be changed. You can run 32bit AutoCAD on 64bit Windows using the The Longbow Converter tool

I can't install AUTOCAD 2009 in my windows XP computer. It asks to install direct 3D

Most probably your hardware ie graphic card do not support software requirements.

Autocad 2009 system requirements for Win XP.
32-bit AutoCAD 2009
Running under Windows XP:
•Microsoft Windows XP SP2 operating system
•Intel® Pentium® 4 processor or AMD Athlon®, 2.2 GHz or greater
or
Intel or AMD Dual Core processor, 1.6 GHz or greater
•1 GB RAM
•750 MB free hard disk space for installation
•1024x768 VGA with true color
•Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (SP1 or higher)
If you are using AutoCAD for 3D modeling, you should bump up your system as follows:
•Intel Pentium 4 processor or AMD Athlon, 3.0 GHz or greater
or
Intel or AMD Dual Core processor, 2.0 GHz or greater
•2 GB RAM or greater
•2 GB of additional free hard disk space
•1,280 x 1,024 32-bit color video display adapter (true color) 128 MB or greater, OpenGL or Direct3D capable workstation class graphics card.

Hope it helps.

Is there any chance to install autocad 32 bit 2004 with 64 bit windows 7 home basic please advice

Maybe. Typically 32 bit programs will not run under 64 bit processors, but some will run under compatability mode. Navigate to the program and right click on it and specify run in compatability mode. Some older programs will not run under 64 bit, period.

AutoCAD 2004 and Windows 7 are NOT compatible. You will need to upgrade to AutoCAD 2010 either 32-bit or 64-bit. Even with the upgrade, there are known limitation issues.

How can I change the resolution from 1280 x 800? This is the highest possible according to the display setttings. I have removed the generic pNp monitor. I am running Vista Business. The display adapter is...

Graphics Unable to use the native resolution, such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050 and 1440x900 circuit388.gif Symptom(s):
On some displays, users may be unable to use the native resolution when using Intel® chipset graphics. Resolutions such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050, and 1440x900 are not available in graphics properties.

Cause:
The display's EDID is not read properly when connected to some digital flat panel displays. Display devices describe its capabilities by sending EDID (Extended Display Information Data) to the computer.

Solution:
Intel has released a graphics driver to specifically address this issue; however, there may be side effects to this solution such as longer than normal resume times from standby. This solution will only work with external displays such as DFP displays connected to the computer's VGA port. This driver is not designed to address issues with a notebook's built-in display (Local Flat Panel) or with TV’s connected to the system. This driver is provided as is. Intel has not tested, and does not guarantee, the operation of the driver for this purpose.
