Question about JVC VDW14DU Single Unit 2x DVD-RW Storage Media
I have tried the DVD in several computers and the DVD does not initialize - it just spins forever. It plays fine in the Handycam that recorded the video. Something must have happened during the finalization process. I would like to move the video footage onto another DVD and format it to play on a normal DVD player.
Have you tried a program called Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier? It's a free download and fixed my DVD errors (again Sony camcorder recorded). I, too, would get an error, and was unable to copy or transfer files. This program fixes the errors, and I have been able to successfully copy all my DVDs! Hope this helps!

Does your camera have other outputs, i.e., composite-video and L/R audio ?
If the disk "plays" inside your video-camera, then use a "video-capture" USB device, to "play" the movie into the USB device, and "record" from the USB device into your computer.
