Well firstly if the door wont close properly you shouldnt use this device as if you are in the kitchen whilst it is in use your slowly cooking yourself . If the door is open microwaves can escape and that is Radiation Lethal if you get too much or too close ?.
The reason it is not heating is probably because most of the microwaves are escaping and not bouncing around your oven cooking your food .. but actually bouncing around your home cooking you . My advise to you is get it repaired by a qualified Domestic appliance engineer or bin it and get a new one ..

I have a Haier microwave and tonight after heating some food, I went to close the door and upon closing it, the carousel started turning and it won't shut off.

It sounds like one of the door switches has become defective, each must be disconnected on the one side and tested with a digital meter using the ohms scale.

Oven won't shut off

One of the door switches is defective, caused by a build up of food particles or normal ware, to correct this a professional will need to identify the problem and replace it.

My GE Spacemaker microwave just stopped heating. It is only a couple years old. Could this be a simple fix or should I just go ahead and purchase another (not GE)?

Check the door safety intelock switch. You will have to remove the cover to find these micro switches (opposite the hinge side of the door). You will need to use a ohm meter to determine if they are working properly or not.

These switches tell the oven that the door is closed and when closed, it if OK to turn on the magnatron.

My JVM1851 model is 7 years old. Everything is working (light, fan, clock, etc). But food does not cook or warm. no heat!!!

As I understand your trouble, your 7 year old microwave does not heat.

I have found the most likely reason for this trouble is a burned door safety interlock switch.

To fix this trouble, remove the cover, find the switch opposite the door hinge. Test the switch for proper operation. You will need a continuity tester or a volt/ohm meter for this.

Let me explain what happens and you will be able to apply this to your situation. When you close the door these switches tell the oven the door is closed and it is ok to turn on the magnatron. If the switches are burned, they cannot tell the oven the door is closed - door not closed, no magnatron, no magnatron, no heat.

Why do they burn? Do you open the door while the oven is in operation? If you do, there is a spark at the tiny micro switch contact and they start to burn. Eventually, they will not close properly.

You can find replacement parts at a advertiser or a appliance parts store in your area or at

The next most likely problem is the start capacitor. This is the silver can inside. Please do not servic this item unless and until you understand the danger associated with it.

This device stores a very large electrical charge. Modern capacitors are supose to drain off the power after a certain amount of time. Some say it is OK to drain the opwer by shorting with a screw driver to ground. Frankly, I'm not a fan of this method. Please try the switches first ... if that doesnt work, post a note here and we can go to the next step.

I hope this solves your trouble and you are able to get your oven back in operation. If you will search this problem here at, you will probably find other ideas from other volunteer workers.

I remember last time when it was working. I pressed the start botton before I closed the door. So it didn't start automatically, and I pushed start and it worked(it still heat up the food), but it doesn't work now. Help Please!!!

Microwave will not stop

Sounds like you have a bad door switch.  Will have to take control panel off and test switches resistance to see if they are opening and closing properly.  If a switch is stuck in or bad the microwave thinks the door is closed.  This is where I would start.  Let me know what you find.
