You need to be very careful when cleaning these screens. In my many years of repairing TV's I have seen many screens damaged by differing solutions that have been used to clean then.
I have always recommended just a clean damp terry cloth. This should take care of most of the smudges. The only other thing that I recommend is a screen cleaning kit, you should be able to get one of these from a local electronics store.

What do the smudges look like? Are they just finger prints? You may want to use a light detergent, like dish-washing soap and put a little in a bowl of water, wipe gently. Then rinse with a fresh damp cloth. Then dry with a clean cloth and see if that works. If they still remain it is a good chance that the screen is damaged, but without seeing, it is hard to advise.

thanks for that have tried your suggestion but i'm afraid the smudges remain could the screen be damaged ?
yes they are like finger marks and have tried nearly evrything most people dont notice them but i do ! the screen to me looks dirty but i have cleaned it as advised and they remain . They are most noticeable on coloured backgrounds eg snooker soccer matches when the background colour is constant
