You need to be very careful when cleaning these screens. In my many years of repairing TV's I have seen many screens damaged by differing solutions that have been used to clean then.
I have always recommended just a clean damp terry cloth. This should take care of most of the smudges. The only other thing that I recommend is a screen cleaning kit, you should be able to get one of these from a local electronics store.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

What do the smudges look like? Are they just finger prints? You may want to use a light detergent, like dish-washing soap and put a little in a bowl of water, wipe gently. Then rinse with a fresh damp cloth. Then dry with a clean cloth and see if that works. If they still remain it is a good chance that the screen is damaged, but without seeing, it is hard to advise.

I hope this helps you out.

How do I clean the LCD/LED screen without smudging or leaving a water mark

Hi Herkandjen,
Most TV companies recommend only a dry cotton cloth for cleaning the LCD screens. My personal experience is that using a mildly moist clean cotton cloth is the best thing for this purpose. For tough oily marks MILD soap solution can also be used in place of water. Please be careful to apply only very mild pressure while cleaning. Never ever spray the screen with any kind of liquid. Because the liquid if seeped through the plastic frame can damage the electronics inside. Happy viewing.

Dark smudges/spots on my HDTV screen

The model indicated here Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 is a LCD rear projection and rarely if ever requires cleaning.

If black spots or such are gradually appearing the issue on this model is the optical light engine.

Set uses a LCD engine which the lamp shines directly into and heat from that very hot lamp can damage sensitive baffles inside the engine.

I would suggest also you contact Sony as they have on several models extended the warranty for this kind of issue---Engine is very expensive part and several of these Sony sets were involved in a class action lawsuit--hence they are dealing with them.

Do not take no for an answer if you want them to help you---the hinge that is sqeeks gets oiled...........

How do I clean my lg screen on my tv properly

Hello
Buy one Bottle of Monster ScreenClean Home & Office Display Cleaner
Make sure your TV screen is completely cooled before cleaning. Have TV turned off for about 30 minutes before cleaning to allow screen to cool off. Unplug TV. Make sure the area where TV is located is well lighted. This will make it easier for you to see if you are leaving any smudges behind when you clean your TV screen. I suggest you get a Monster ScreenClean Display Cleaning Kit, unless you have a couple of clean and quality Microfiber cloths in your home. If so, you can buy the ScreenClean solution separately. Some LCD TVs come with a Microfiber cloth, but they are usually a bit small
Spray Monster ScreenClean to Center of TV
Assuming you are using the Monster brand display cleaner, remove the little plastic cap on top of the bottle pump. Please do not try to go cheap with display cleaning solution when you most likely have a not so cheap TV. The cleaning solution will be much cheaper than having your screen repaired or replaced. The Monster directions state to either spray the ScreenClean solution onto the Microfiber cloth or directly onto display surface. Although the Monster solution is drip resistant, it does trickle sometimes, although very slowly. For that reason, I suggest if you are going to spray your screen directly with the Monster solution, spray toward the center of the TV screen about 8 inches away from the surface. Do not worry, if you forget and spray the solution closer to the frame of the TV, the display cleaning solution is still rather slow in to trickle down your screen. Just use a little caution
Gently rub Microfiber cloth in a circular motion to apply the cleaning solution evenly over entire display. Repeat with dry portion of the Microfiber cloth if the TV screen needs extra polishing. You may get a smudge free cleaning without the dry portion of your cloth if your TV screen was not that dirty
To clean the frame of most LCD and plasma TVs use a clean eye glass cloth dampened with water. Make sure to go in one direction around the frame of the TV. Check manufacturers directions to be certain, but for most the eye glass cloth should be fine. Since it is made to take care of eye glasses, it does not scratch. For certain it works fine on the Samsung Touch of Color TV frames

How do you clean plasma screen

Turn off the plasma display before cleaning it. Doing this is not necessary, but it's preferred, especially if you're going to use a cleaning solution spray. Since Plasma TVs use more power than and generate more heat than LCD TVs, it is best to turn it off AND allow ample time for the unit to cool to the touch before attempting to clean the screen. Failure to do this may cause your cleaning solution to evaporate before it has had enough time to remove any dust, dirt, or contaminants on your screen.[1] Some sources suggest unplugging the TV. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to remove fingerprints and smudges. Avoid wood-based products (paper towels, toilet paper, tissues) because they can scratch the screen. If stubborn dirty spots persist, go to the next step. However, be advised that some manufacturers, such as Pioneer, recommend no liquid at all on the front of their plasmas, lest it seep into the plasma display.
If you must use a liquid, spray-- a minimal amount of--the cleaning solution on the soft cloth, not on the screen. If the moistened cloth is not cleaning sufficiently, you can spray additional SMALL amounts on the cloth. At no time do you want the cloth wet to the point where the solution drips or runs down the screen! See previous point for the reason why. Use either just distilled water or non-ammonia or alcohol-based window cleaner. Ammonia and alcohol are substances which will eventually cloud any plastic with microscopic "crazing," with the effect of hazing and dimming the displayed image. After wiping the screen gently, follow up with a dry cloth

How can I clean my plasma screen covered in sticky hand marks from my children!!!

You don't need expensive screen cleaning solutions to clean your screen. To remove the dust, use a good quality (like a micro-fiber) cloth. Then use separate cloth moistened, not saturated, with dish water to gentle wipe the smudges off. Do not scrub the screen, be patient and work them softly. Most TV mfg recommend this method. I hope this was of some assistance.

Cleaning

It is recommended to use a simple alcohol solution to clean an LCD or PLASMA screen. This solution is made up of 1 part distilled water and 1 part 50% isopropyl alcohol. Be warned that isopropyl alcohol is flammable.
50% isopropyl alcohol is very common. If you find 70%, 91%, or 99% isopropyl alcohol, adjust the formula to use less alcohol and more distilled water.
By mixing these two in a bottle, you will produce a model cleaning solution. Remember not to use tap water -- only use distilled water.
Do NOT use tissues/Kleenex to wipe your screen. That is as ineffective, because they will leave little tissue particles all over your screen . Try and find some microfiber cloth to clean your screen. Cloths that come along with prescribed glasses are usually good.
You may want to clean the rest of the actual screen before moving onto the LCD or PLASMA part. First dampen the cloth with the solution. You should never spray any sort of liquid directly onto the screen. Wipe the screen gently from top to bottom and wait for it to dry.
Be careful not to let the cleaning solution leak into the sides of the monitor. Also, be certain that you do not press hard on the LCD or PLASMA screen. You can permanently damage an LCD or PLASMA screen by pressing on it too hard.

If there is just dust on your screen, there is no need to fully clean it. To remove dust all that must be done is to wipe it away with a microfiber cloth. Simply wipe your screen from end to end gently with the cloth. For smoke filled room, It would be good to clean it once a month when the smoke is not around during cleaning.

How to clean screen

I have never seen a mfg that recommended anything but a soft cloth and warm water on it, and below is what your manual say about cleaning. You should just use what the manual says.

Use a soft cotton cloth to gently clean the screen.
2. The screen glass is very fragile. Do not scrape it with any sharp object. Do not press or tap
the screen to avoid cracking. When the screen is seriously contaminated, use a soft cloth
moistened with diluted neutral cleaner to clean the display. Wring water out of the cloth
before cleaning to prevent water from penetrating into the housing. Wipe the display with a
dry cloth after cleaning.

Smudge looking marks onscreen

If you suddenly noticed it, this is most likely caused by a large piece of dust on the lens. It is hard to clean, you would need to take the whole TV apart in order to get to the lens (mounted on the optical block).

It could also be caused by a failure of the optical block, which had inherent issues. There is a pending class action law suit against Sony for problems with optical block that include smudges, hazes, and tints that appear after a certain number of hours.

Other causes could be a dirty portion of the mirror or a smudge on the inside part of the screen but these are rare because dust and contaminants do not usually accumulate on these parts of the TV.
