The resistors are very close to the IC'c. All are very low in ohms. 2.2 / 3.3 ect. Just check them with a dvm and make sure they are right on the money, no need to replace them all. Most of the time RK42 burns- 3.3ohm 1watt and RK62 2.2ohm 1watt. If they are burned, do not mount them right on the board, suspend them. I hope you order's the STK392-150 for both, better chip.

46F500 white smoke

First unplug the unit until problem is found---I would look inside for burnt parts like resistors in the convergence circuit which is the most common issue this set has.

They may be discolored or brown in the middle and not actually charred.

Locate what burned and you will locate the area where the problem is, many resistors in that area are protection, if a short they destroy themselves very quickly ....

If you were having any issue before or at the point it started smoking where picture looked odd or even 3d it will be in the convergence circuit.

Not exact but something like this--the two black chips and resistors in front of them.

Have a 46f500 hitachi projection television. Started out with a blue reversed arc hanging down on upper right. Now images are not focused, and red, blue and green are layered. Double images. I looked...

It is a convergence problem and set uses two of the STK-392-150 CHIPS. Both will have to be replaced and the set adjusted.

for more information let me know if you can solder and your skill levels.

Color convergence out of order .three colors out of order.

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

Hitachi 46F500 and there is a blue curved bar

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Shadowed colors inpicture

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Has a wave in the picture half way across top of screen

You most likely have a convergence chip bad. In our shop, when we are working on projection TVs, we find that about 80% of the repairs we make are the same problem you are having. You need to replace the convergence chip ( there are 2 of the same chips on the convergence board, and I suggest you replace both ). If you are going to attempt the repair yourself you'll need to remember to use lots of heat sink grease so you don't have the same problem again. Also, try to get original parts, as there are times that the after-market ones don't work well. As a precaution, always remember to unplug the set from the wall before you do any work on the set. Good Luck
