Question about Televison & Video

My Sumsung DLP Model HLN5065W keeps going to a black screen with some white pixels and then I can unplug it and it will come back on for awhile. It appears to reset itself when I unplug it. I replaced the bulb about 6 months ago and the fan appears and sounds to be working fine. The set is about 5-6 years old. Could it possible be the digital power control board and if so is this a "plug and play" replacement?

How do you determine it is the color wheel and not the digital power control board?

Is the DMD board the same as the digital power control board? I have found refurbished for 350 to 450. Can't seem to get any tech to come out. They say it would cost more to fix that to replace but the replacement I'm looking at is a 50" LCD for 2300. If I could just replace a board and get another couple of years out of this I would like to. I am accomplished enough replace a board if I knew which one to buy. I found several at partstore.com. What would you suggest.

The DLP chip on your DMD board is defective. The repair is not cheap unless your techy enough to change out the chip yourself. However the picture will go out of alignment if you do will have to be adjusted. Some repair companies may want to change out the entire light engine (where the DMD sits) becuase its a lot easier and no adjustment but will cost more.

Hi, it seems like your tv has a defective 'color weel' that's why the tv sometimes goes blank with white pixels.

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

I have a samsung 50 in. DLP PBO2. I have black specs all over the screen and a few white one. Whats wrong?

This is a failure of the DMD board. The DMD board is the device that has the "million little mirrors" that compose each pixel of your display. The black specs are mirrors that are stuck in the off posistion therefore not reflecting any light at all. The white specs are the opposite reflecting light all of the time. This is a repair you should leave to a TV technician as once this board is repalced there is some electrical and mechanical alignment needed. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

My Samsung HLN5065W started to freeze to a black and white

I have a problem with my HLN 5065W Samsung DLP that 3 other folks have and no solution. After the set is on from 5 minutes to 6 hours, the screen will freeze in black and white, I can turn it off for 5 minutes and it will display a good picture again. Sometimes the screen will just go dark blue, TV has to be cycled on/off to get the display back. This problem is getting worse, started as once a month, now 3-5 times a day. I have a tech background and can read a schematic, HELP.
