Is your AV cables plugged in to the correct coloured plugs? For instance, if you plug the white jack into the red it will cause problems. Yellow plugs to Yellow, White to White and Red to Red.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

the contacts that are in the n64 are probably burnt out in the back or the system is not reading the starter/expansion pak cuz mine did the same thing when the starter/expansion pak slot stopped reading.

Fix gamecube

check all your cables, i had the same problem and it ended up being a joystick with an exposed wire. i actually returned the first gamecube because of this but when the second one had the same problem i ended up searching on the net for answers. the gamecube shuts itself down as a safety feature so just double check all you cables, the problem joystick in my case was hardly noticeable so look closely, gluk!!

If the power shuts off during game play (even as much as 30 minutes after the system is turned on), then turns off and won't turn back on or the fan isn't working, the system needs repair.

Sound not Working Correctly

It could be the TV inputs, or a loose connection in the wires leading to the TV.. in the worst case, the actual AV output device on the GameCube may be damaged somehow.. for this, you'll have to send the GameCube to Nintendo to fix up for you.....
