A SIM card is for 4G LTE internet service, so if you have a Samsung Tab 4 ensure it is 4G capable before trying to insert a SIM card. If you try to insert a SIM card into a SD Card slot you may damage the card reader.
That being said, I believe it is located on the right side of the tablet. Sometimes the SD Card slot and the Sim card slot are right next to each other. Once you open the cover that reveals the slots there should be small icons for the SD Card and the Sim card. Normally, the SIM card slot will have a little notch on the icon. Attached are guides with pictures.
Go to Settings>Storage>External SD and look for the *unmount* option. Touch *unmount*. This will electroncally close the SD Card connection so it can be safely removed from the slot. Then remove it from the slot. Then clean the brass contacts with a little piece of toilet paper. Then slide the SD card back into the slot.
The device should automatically *mount* the card. If it doesn't and there is a mount option shown then touch *mount*. If it still doesn't work then chances are your SD card went bad. They do that sometimes.
The card reader slot is shorter than the memory card itself, so it sounds like you didn't put the SD card into the card reader but rather, into some other kind of slot. If you cannot see the card at all, try straightening a wire such as a large paperclip or something and try using a flashlight so you can see to try and fish the SD card out. If you can't do it, you will have to go to the local computer store for them to try for you.
When you remove an SD card from its slot, you should *unmount* it first so you don't lose data. If you just pull it
out without first unmounting it, you could corrupt it and lose
data. This might have happened in your case or not. If you didn't remove it, try this.
Go to Settings>Storage>External SD, touch Unmount.
Then remove your SD card and using a Q-Tip and some
solvent like alcohol clean the copper contacts. Then slide it
back into the slot. The device should *Mount* it automatically.
If it still doesn't work, you could try hooking your device up to a computer via its USB cable and see if your computer can see any files on it. If it can't see any then somehow they could have gotten erased. Try loading them back. If they won't load and you get error messages, the SD card itself may have gone Kaput.
turn it of , on the left side of the tablet should be the slot to re install it , put it in all the way till it stays in (it will lock ) then turn the tablet back on .it should find it on its own , if not you may have to re set the tablet with the SD card in it so it can re configure it .
I just did the same thing. I didn't want to put anything metal in to the slot. After trying with various pieces of hard packaging plastic I put double sided sticky tape on a piece of plastic and slid it down into the slot. The sd card attached itself to the sticky tape and I was able to pull it out. Good luck
determine if your computer has a memory card slot for sd cards.. if memory card slot is not available use a "card reader" you can get that from walmart and on other stores once memory card is connected.. it will appear on your computer as a removable disk or device.. you can check that on "my computer" window for XP or "computer" window for vista.. you can explore the content of the memory card and get your files.. good luck!!
