Question about Microwave Ovens

Frigidaire Micro FMT139 built in..Above a Frig Oven. Was part of the home when we moved in 1999...has worked fine. Yesterday AM, I used it to heat my coffee; by dinnertime, it stopped working. Only the timer works. Set a time, punch the button...nothing...just the light and the timer. Is there a part I can replace, or am I due for a new one?

This link states the same problem I'm havinfg: the timer counts down, the light works, but no power. It indicates the likely cause is a faulty doo switch. this makes sense, since, for some time now, the door does not just 'pop out' when you press the open button; you have to pull it open.

What is involved in replaceing the door switch?

Make sure you hear the fan is still operating in your microwave. Next is to make sure the air intake grill on your microwave is not plugged up with air borne dust and dirt. Frigidaire Micro FMT139 - nuker100.jpg Use an old tooth brush to help clean off the grille area.

Hi,

I actually solved my own problem. It was never the microwave in the first place. Once I hit start, it lost power. It wasn't the fuse box, or the fuse in the micro. An electrial outlet on the same fuse box ended up blowing, so I had to look at the outlet behind the stove to realize it had burned up.

The reason why this could have burned is:

Probably due to a loose screw or clip connection where the wires connect to the outlet's terminals.

These must be tight, especially for high-current loads like microwave ovens.

Loose connections can lead to serious or dangerous overheating.

I would say the reason the microwave made it blow was that the microwave's outlet is probably fed by (daisy-chained with) the outlet that blew.

If so, this is not really a good idea.

A high-current load (microwave, freezer, fridge, etc.) should ideally be on its own breaker / fuse with no other items on the same power line.

For any further and future doubts you can always refer to the site:

Thank You

I changed the fuse on a Frigidare #FMT118EPB Microwave and it blew again. I checked the micro switches with a meter and they seem to work. What else could be causing the fuse to blow? Thanks.

If you put in the correct size of fuse then what it needs is to go to a qualified service tech. What would be next requires removing the covers and if you do not know what you are doing you will fry yourself.

I have removed the mounting brackets from the top of the microwave but still cannot get it to tilt forward for removal. I do not see any levers as suggested in the Solution #1 above. Any other advice?

Did you remove the 3 screws from the top that hold it to the cabinet. Here is a install manual so you know what screws to remove. also make sure the ducting is removed all the wat to tilt micro.
