Re: stand by light on but thats all

If it does nothing when you push the standby button to make it play the most common problem is the power standby sw is bad. do you know how to use a miltimeter if so test the voltage through the swithc when you press the button.

When I turn on player it only stays on about 3 seconds and then red light comes back on.

Power supply problem and unless a expensive unit it may not get fixed as parts are often not sold for these units.

No pwr

the flashing red light is caused by a burst or bulging capacitor on the power supply side of the dvp642's mainboard.
to fix it simply dis-assemble the unit removing the mainboard totally from the casing. search for the bad capacitor on the main board. once you have found it simply turn the board over and using a soldering iron and some desolder twine desolder the capacitor from the board being careful not to burn the circuit board or lift any traces.once you have removed the old capacitor take it and purchase a replacement from radioshack or equivalent store. make sure the replacement has the exact same voltage rating and AT LEAST THE SAME AMPERAGE higher is ok lower will not work.but the voltage must be exactly the same. resolder the new capacitor to the mainboard and reassemble and viola your up and running again

Code for apex tv through philips universal remote

Go to
Follow the steps..its easy. It will ask for the model of your remote which you will find where your batteries are located..The code I used for my APEX tv was 0023.. to load the code first hold the setup button until the red light stays on..then press tv or whatever mode you are setting up..then enter the code and if the red light goes off it is the right code and you should then press channel up to see if it works...If this code doesn't work the site above offers other codes.. Hope this helps!!

DVD player froze, now only turns off

Sounds like the power supply in the dvd player has failed. It works just well enough to turn on the led infront but as soon as you go to do anything it shuts off. This is common in cheaper dvd players. Unless you can troubleshoot electronics. Or know someone that can. Your best bet is to unplug the unit and disassemly and retrieve your dvd.
