For the carriage Jam problem on my HP 7410xi, I followed all the suggestions from this web page to clean the rollers etc. 'deriv clear' etc. What is next?

Solution to your printer is to pull out your mains plug and put back let the printer set it self again it should let you remove your
cartriage out.

is your any one or both cartridge fail

if carriage block not move first time so check for encoder strip is

My Photosmart 2610 just started having this same problem today. As many of you have done, I also went to the hp support website and tried just about everything. Finally I discovered the answer to my problem on my own. Here's what I did (you might want to have a wet rag handy to wipe the ink off your fingers):

1) With the printer on, I pressed "okay" to clear the error message. You should immediately hear the sound of the carriage (the contraption that holds the cartridges) moving inside.

2) Open the print cartridge access door (the main access point for the cartridges) and confirm that the carriage is indeed moving.
If the carriage won't move at all, I'm not sure that this solution will help you. However, if the carriage moves from side to side after you press "okay", please read on.

3) This is unorthodox, so bear with me: when the carriage moves away from it's "resting place" (in my printer it's on the right hand side) and is near the center of the printer, unplug the power cord from the printer. The purpose of this is to free up the undercarriage (which was the part that actually was jammed on my printer).

4) Ensure that the carriage moves freely from left to right and right to left by pushing gently on its sides.

5) Move the carriage to left side of the printer so you have room to access the undercarriage.

6) It might be helpful to have a flashlight or some other light targeting the undercarriage for this next part. If you look directly underneath the undercarriage, you should see a foam/spongy product resting in the base of the printer. The purpose of the sponge is to absorb any ink that escapes from the cartridges. Herein lies the problem: over time, as the undercarriage adjusts to enable the carriage and its cartridges to do their work, the undercarriage gets caught on the inky sponge. Note that the undercarriage is fragile, but is moveable by gently pushing it toward the front or back of the printer.

7) Adjust the undercarriage so you can see the sponge and the "axel" (for lack of a better term) that turns to move the undercarriage forward and back. It may take some detective work, but you should be able to determine where the sponge is supposed to lie. Your goal here is to push the sponge down as far as it will go so that it won't obstruct the movements of the undercarriage.

8) On my printer, there was also a small amount of sponge wrapped around the "axel" that prevented it from moving smoothly. I unwrapped it and double-checked that nothing else was obstructing movement.

9) Final step: leave everything where you moved it, shut the lid, and plug it back in. A little prayer never hurts either. Good luck! AIM ID if you need more help: GnarlyVeaux

Hi,

Perform a semi-full reset on the all-in-one by following the steps below

1
Take out the cartridges from the unit .
2
Make sure the unit is connected to the wall jack directly without any surge protector.
3
Unplug the power cord from the back of the unit ( without turning off the unit ) .
4
Now press the # and 6 key together , while holding these keys down plug in the power cord back into the unit .
5
Do not release the keys after a few seconds u will find te hp logo or bars moving across the screen .wait while the unit turns off.

after one minute turn on the prnter . it will go into alligment phase > let it finish .


7 Allow the all-in-one to re-initialize. This may take a minute or two.

8 If prompts appear in the all-in-one display to set the front panel language and country settings, perform the steps to set this information

Message appears "Paper jam".


Paper jams can be true or false. A false paper jam occurs when the error message displays, but no jammed paper is in the product. The following solutions apply to both true and false paper jam errors.

Print a self-test report Use the following steps to print a self-test report.
  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.
  2. Press Setup , and then press 2 . The Print Report menu displays.
  3. Press 1 to select and print a Self-Test Report
Solution one: Clear the paper jam Step one: Remove loose paper from the tray Remove any loose sheets of paper from the input tray and the output tray.

Step two: Clear the jam from the back of the All-in-One

  • If the issue persists , continue with the next solution.
Solution two: Make sure that the carriage can move freely Follow these steps to make sure that the carriage can move freely. Step one: Check the paper path

  3. Reach inside the product, and then manually move the carriage.
    • If the carriage is stuck on the right side , move the carriage to the left side of the product.

    • If the carriage is stuck in the middle , move the carriage to the right.
  4. Remove any paper or obstructions found.
  5. Make sure that the carriage can move freely across the width of the product by gently pushing the carriage to the left, and then to the righ

  • If the issue persists , continue with the next solution.
  • If the self-test report does not print , continue with the next solution.
Solution three: Clean the rollers and the rear access door Dust, paper fiber, and other debris might accumulate on the paper feed rollers and cause paper jams and paper feed issues. Follow these steps to clean the paper feed rollers inside the product. Step one: Clean the rollers
  1. Press the Power button (c01602202.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.

  4. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.

  6. Make sure that the paper feed rollers on the rear access door are clean, free of paper bits, and rotate freely.

While printing 2 or 3 lines it shows paper jam message. Can't print even a page!!!

Paper jams can be real or false. The unit may report a paper jam when there is not any jammed paper, however, the solution to a real paper jam or a false paper jam is the same. WARNING: Jammed paper must be removed using the rear access door and the power cord must be disconnected or a carriage jam or mechanical damage may occur. Do not remove jammed paper from the front of the unit.
  1. Turn off the HP product and turn it so the back of the unit faces you.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the all-in-one. The power cord must be disconnected to allow the paper feed rollers to turn freely.
  3. Locate and open the rear access door by pressing in on the left side tab and then pulling the door toward you. Figure 1: Removing the rear access door c00108288.jpg Inspect the pressure rollers on the rear access door and verify that they are clean and turn freely. Clean the rollers if needed with a soft towel lightly moistened with water. If the rollers do not turn freely, replace the rear access door.

My officejet 5610 says "carriage jam. Open Door etc. I can't find a door to the carriage.

here are some solutions for your carriage jam error.

1. Clear any jam...remove loose paper.
2.Clear the jam from the back of the printer

turn off the printer...remove the rear access door..
pull the paper out of the roller and return the rear access door.
3. Clear the paper jam from the front of the printer..while printer is on.. open the carriage access door..

disconnect the power cable from the back.. remove the paper output tray.

look inside the product..check for torn papers..gently pull out the paper from the roller...return the paper output tray and the carriage access door. plug the power corn and turn on..
4. Make sure the carriages move freely...while the printer is on.. open the carriage access door.

disconnect the power cord from the back..remove the paper output tray...look inside if the carriage is stuck and if there is no papers or object that restrict the carriage to move..return the output tray.. return the carriage access door...
And lastly after doing this steps try to reset the printer and try to print..

To reset the printer....press the power button to turn on the printer..disconnect the power cord from the product..disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.. wait for 15 seconds.. plug the power cord to the wall socket....plug the power cord at the back of the printer.. press the power on of the printer.. try to print the test page...

For the paper jam you remove the back cover and clean the 4 rubber rollers with alcohol, you can rotate the rollers forward while you clean. For carriage jam you start by cleaning the encoder strip that runs across behind the carriage unit, the clear strip with black bars on it, you can wipe with a Q-tip damp with alcohol. If no help you may need to take apart and clean dried ink off of the service station on the right.

I would try disconnecting the printer and unplug. Then remove the software and driver. Then re-install the latest drivers and software for your printer. Follow the installation instructions. If the problem comes back then the printer has a problem. Could be a dead motor that drives the paper roller if it does not go away. If the printer is under warranty you should be able to get it repaired. The warranty is usually only a year.

Carriage Jam


I just bought a 7210 off Ebay for 99 pence (ex £14 delivery) within the description was "Carriage Jam" message so I knew it was faulty. 20 mins of Googling and a 5 minute clean has it up and running.

It did not involve loosening a single screw.

Okay, here's what I did...

- Switch on the printer.

- Open the print cartridge lid.

- Pull the plug from the back of the machine to avoid risk of electric shock.

- Using a light cleaning solution on a lint-free cloth, carefully VERY CAREFULLY, wipe the position strip (on both sides, front and back), then dry it with a dry lint-free cloth. Now move the cartridge carriage to the left and clean and dry the remaining half of the position strip. If you bend this position strip, your printer is knackered.

- Gently move the carriage back to the right.

- Holding down the OK and CANCEL buttons, plug in the power lead to the back of the printer and press the POWER button.

- Wait until the message DERIV CLEAR ('Deriv' is right - I'm not sure about 'clear' now) appears then release the OK and CANCEL buttons.

- The printer should thrash about a little, the carriage will move back and forth and then it should tell you the cartridges need changing and you follow the instructions, pressing OK or selecting the language options.

- It will print an alignment page and then you should be good to go.

I am a comms technician, I poke, I tweak. I don't give up.

Without knowing what type of printer we are dealing with, what paper try layout etc etc.. I would suggest you try replacing your pickup rollers.

The most likely cause is that when you cleared the paper jam, you did something to physically misalign the print carriage. The closest thing HP has on its web site that addresses this issue is the following:
