My Lifedrive won't boot up

October 14, 2007

After running some corrupt MP3s...My Lifedrive will no longer boots up... The PalmOne screen appears and then it just "hangs"
I've tried  both "quick" and "secure" erase... and the same thing happens.... Before I buy a new one...I'm thinking of buying a new battery...Maybe it's lacking enough "power" in the boot sequence...

My Palm Lifedrive is locked with the logo on the sceen. It will not respond to any comands that I give it. I tryed soft and hard boots. If I hold the on switch to the on position and push the reset button, then release the reset button then release the on switch it will bring up a screen that showes to use the scrole button up for a 5 minute soft boot, or to use the scrole down for a 30 minute hard boot, and to exit to push the enter button. Each button will take you to a screen, but it will not do anything. When I push to exit, it will take you back to the logo. It will stay on until the battery goes dead. Can you help me....................

Seems the LifeDrive Micro Drive is the killer on these Palms. Mine did the same thing and after extensive online research I found that the micro drive can be replaced with a Compact Flash card which is much more reliable. Apparently there are only certain CF cards that work with the LifeDrive though. I have found at least one retailer that sells a compatible CF preloaded with the Lifedrive software. The route I took for repair was to send it out to a guy that advertises his service on eBay. You send in the LifeDrive, he diagnoses it for $5, and can install the CF card with software for $89 (he waives the $5 if you have him fix it). I am looking forward to getting mine back in permanent working order! Here is the link:

Do not waste your money on a new battery - i have been down the same road i even replaced the hard drive and some of the internal board connector ribbons in the hope that i could avoid having to spend out on repair- the life drive is inherently de funked you are not alone many users if not all have or will have the same issue- i would suggest giving up on it and finding a suitable replacement maybe the  TX- unless you love it that much and money is no object.
oh and do nt waste your time looking to palm for answers i have also been there and nothing they suggested worked.

The windows files are corrupted or the hard drive has issues, load cd installation disc if available, if that fails have the hardware checked for possible replacement.

That blinking underscore is the way in which the laptop's BIOS is telling you that it didn't find any Windows to boot to - it was completely corrupted.
The only thing left to do is to reinstall it.

Palm lifedrive wont' boot stuck on palm screen

This sounds like the issue where the LifeDrive is stuck in a loop. You can see how to break the device out of the system loop on the Palm Knowledge Base article (26419) located HERE.

Hope that helps get you up and running again!

My lifedrive when plugged in comes up with the logo (palmone) however the screen will not change. Ive tried a soft reset and a hardreset does anyone have any suggestions. I have used this very little....

Unfortunetly that is typical of the internal microdrive having died on you. If the hard reset doesn nothing then that is most likely your problem.

You can replace the microdrive but if you want to improve your LD you can get it changed to use a compact flash disk such as a SanDisk 4gb card. It will run much faster and for longer. This is a simple thing to replace either but given the choice I'd go with the CF. There are several place that will repair your LD for you if you don't want to fix it yourself. You should end up spendingunder $100

Dead LifeDrive

I would guess you bought a dud micro drive or its been cleaned off. You could try a hard reset and see if it fixes itself. Perhaps the fellow cleaned off his information but hopefully he left the restore partition alone. You can rebuild that if you extract the files from the 2.0 upgrade and so on. There are a few tutorials on how and what to do on some of the hardcore LD sites.

Hopefully you didn't harm the board itself with a static discharge. I've seen a few guys do the swap and end up with a dead LD but usually they don't see anything at all.

BackupBuddy VFS Pro supports the LifeDrive?

The readme info needs to be updated. The current readme is actually from the previous version and out of date. It should now look something like this.. (note newest info at top, previous version info underneath) BBVFS 3.1.4 New features include: + added option to backup after HotSync + LifeDrive compatibility fixes Bug fixes include: - some password letters were being ignored - fixed problem of backing up files encrypted with the built-in Security app - blank screen/crash on startup - crashes during orphans processing - no scrollbar appeared when there were more than 10 checkpoints in the list - didn't fail gracefully when trying to restore corrupted backup files BBVFS 3.1, 6.05 * Users may now select which card to backup to on devices with more than one card slot * Backup and Restore of T5 internal drive (!) is now supported * Backup of databases with records > 64K is supported, which will allow backup/restore of Photo/Videos on T3/T5/T650 and "VoiceDial" application * Advanced screen now adds new files to the backup set automatically * Wireless updating (via "About" screen) * Implemented a Palm Source Installer package * Many important bug fixes, including: Several issues relating to compression and encryption "Last Backup" being incorrectly set to "NEVER" No longer will soft-reset if no card is mounted on the T5 TUNGSTEN T5 SUPPORT This build includes further refinements to backup and restore on the T5 but we have confirmed with PalmOne that there are some issues with the T5 NVFS implementation that require a patch from to completely resolve. We recommend that all users download and install the T5 patch that is available here: http://www.palmone.com/us/support/d...ent5update.html Alternatively T5 users may want to try a program called "DBCache Tool" which you may download here: http://www.jade.dti.ne.jp/~imazeki/palm/DBcT/ LIFEDRIVE SUPPORT We are aware that this release contains some remaining issues with the new PalmOne LifeDrive and we are working to resolve them. Please contact support@bluenomad.com if you'd like to help with testing. BBVFS 3.07, 1.05 BackupBuddyVFS 3.07 is being released with preliminary support for the T5/Treo 650, although there are still some outstanding issues that we are continuing to investigate; specifically: * Power Users with a (near) full device especially may experience "out of memory" errors and/or random resets; restarting the backup or restore operation will usually allow it to reach completion. This is due to issues with the new "NVFS" file system on these new devices that developers cannot currently work around. We hope that palmOne will issue a patch to fix this, and we will continue to try and find a work-around. * Photos and Videos will not be backed up on the Treo 650/Tungsten T5.
