What operating system are you using? If it's XP you can left click on "start" then "run" and type msconfig in the pop-up box and hit ok. The system configuration utility box will pop up. Hit the startup tab along the top. This will list all of the programs that get started when you boot the computer. You can turn these off by un-checking the boxes. When you un-check a box the program is not deleted, it just not started up every time you boot. You can still start up the program manually if you need it. I usually run with a minimum number of programs checked. The computer will boot faster and run faster because it's not tying up a bunch of resources on these programs you don't need. You will need to hit ok after making your selections and then you will need to re-boot. On the first boot up after the changes are made a window will pop up warning you that you've customized your startup configuration. Just check the box so it won't show you that message again and hit ok.

Do you have Norton or McAfee?  If so, that is what is causing it.

Max out the ram, if possible, or at least increase it to 1Gb or better.(Go to crucial.com to use their scanner or memory advisor to see what's possible for your system.) Make sure virtual memory &/or swap files are set up correctly. Use the system configuration utility to see what's running at every startup, and use the task manager to see what processes are running in the background.
Minimize the number of applications that run at startup, deselect unnecessary services and avoid security suites and other AV programs that may be resource hogs, sticking with reliable but lighter apps like Eset's NOD32, etc.
You don't mention whether you're on xp or vista, but go to MS's help and how-to site and search performance for your OS, and you'll get access to a wealth of information about how to tweak your setup to make the most of it's ram.
If you set it up correctly, take out the trash, (keep temp files from growing too large, etc), keep it defragged, and minimize the number of nonessential programs installed into memory, you'll have plenty of speed to keep things humming along.
See useful links here and here and here and here for xp or here for vista

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

What type of dual core processor can I use for my dc7600?

The motherboard for the dc7600 has an Intel LGA775 processor socket. However, not all LGA775 processors are compatible with the motherboard. For the small form factor, the following CPUs are supported: Intel Celeron D Processors:
Intel Celeron D 331 Processor (2.66-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 336 Processor (2.80-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 346 Processor (3.06-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HT Technology:
Intel Pentium 4 521 Processor (2.8-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 524 Processor (3.06-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 541 Processor (3.2-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 620 Processor (2.8-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 630 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 631 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 650 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 651 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 661 Processor (3.6-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) or
Intel Pentium D Dual Core Processors:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I wish that I had better news for you.

(do not attempt to use a CPU that your motherboard doesn't support. It probably won't boot.)
