Not worked on one of these before but if it is a removable disk I would have thought it either uses a Fat or NT format system . If you have a computer connect it to that and for mat it first in Fat 32 and if that doesent work try an NT format .

The other alternative is to contact samsung support online and they should be able to tell you .

I would have thought if it was responding correct that the unit should have given you a format option , maybe it is in one of the menu sub listings have you tried that or not sorry cant be more help ... Regards Vortash

I have set up a dozen or so if these units.... so it's fairly simple (if you understand the terminology) - By the way, I just got off the phone with Samsung tech support to confirm. John at GVI /Samsung says the drive cannot exced 160 Gig or it will not recognize it period. Secondly, the drive cannot have any format or partition whatsoever. So use a partition tool and delete the partition and the DVR will initialize it and format the drive to suit it's operating system.
I have had luck repartitioning the drives in a basic FAT 32 and making sure I did NOT set the partition as active..and the DVR configured the drive properly. Good Luck!

By using my experience, when u purchase a new hard drive, the type of hardrive cannot be recognise unless u specify it..the solution for this problem is by attaching your new hard drive to the pc.i usually use software called acronis partition expert.by using this software, u can see your hard drive where it is in unallocated format.just find create new partition and then choose either FAT32 or NTFS format (please refer to your samsung manual to make sure it support what type of format in hard drive)..and then, complete the task by clicking the flag shown in that software.finally, attact it to your digital video recorder....

p/s:supposely there are methods that included in microsoft windows about how to set format to your hard drive but i forgot how to use it...sorry..

Motherboard Problem

Good day,
'

There are several component we need to consider in order for us to give you a more appropriate solution to your dilemma.

1. There are pin configuration at the back of your hard drive which can be switched from one combination to another. These pins is for boot sequencing. Try switching your hard drive pin configuration from master or slave to auto detect or IDE detect.
2. IDE cable must be inserted correctly. IDE cables have red lining on one side which indicates the proper insertion. Red Lining must be facing the red wire from the power supply cord. Try looking a closer look.

However, we need to ask you a few questions to give you a more direct answer.
Kindly provide the following.
1. Is you hard drive an IDE type it SATA.
2. Motherboard specs.
3. Memory allotted.

Should you have any questions, feel free to approach us.

Gigabyte-GA-8S648FX I updated my BIOS and my pc wont start, please hel'p bobonickelson@yahoo.co.uk

Ok, you have 2 x UDMA ATA 133/100/66 Bus Master IDE ports on that motherboard, so you can support 4 ide devices. It is important that you split your devices between the 2 available ide channels (each channel has a seperate ribbon cable). For example if you have 1 hard drive and 1 cd drive you'd want to place each on a seperate channel. If you have 2 hard drives and 1 cd drive it's best to place each hard drive on a seperate channel and the cd drive on the same channel as one of the hard drives. You have to make sure the jumper settings on the drives are correct (1 master and 1 slave) when placing 2 drives on the same channel for example. Most likely your jumper settings are not correct and are causing this problem. The jumpers are located on the rear of the drive near where the power cable is plugged into the drive. Most hard drives have the jumper setting printed on the hard drive. Once the jumpers are correct you should be ok.

your reformatting the hard drive removed everything
it is now not booting from the hard drive because there is no operating system to boot from
you will have to put the os disc into an external cd drive , change the boot priority from hard drive to cd and get the os onto the hard drive

Stepbystep procedure for formating

Hello jerapur_123 What you'll need:
  • Recovery CD or Restore CD from the MFG
  • WIndows Operating Disk 98 or ME, 2000, XP or Vista.
  • A CD Rom Drive
  • Or a Floppy for low level formatting.
Key Steps to Formatting
Back it Up!
Before the format process, you want to make sure that if your goal is hard drive recovery, you back-up as much personal data and information from your hard drive as you need. In some instances where a virus has caused serious system damage, this may not be possible, but if your format is planned ahead of time you certainly can copy and archive data off your hard drive before you start the format process.

How to Format
If you purchased your computer from systems vendor such as a Dell, HP Compaq or Gateway system, you most likely will have a set-up or a restore-and-recovery CD (also referred to as a master CD) that came with the system. If this is the type of system you use, then a format is an easy process as the master CD by inserting the CD into your CDROM, will format the hard drive, reinstall your Windows operating system, and install any software and programs that came with the system. If you no longer have your master set-up CD, you should contact the manufacturer to get a replacement.

How to Format without a Recovery Disk:

If you aren't using this type of mass-market system, then a hard drive format will consist of you formatting the hard drive manually, installing your Windows OS from CD, then installing your software programs and hardware drivers. Before you begin the formatting process, it is important to make sure you have all your driver CDs located, Windows CD and your software CDs to ensure a smooth set-up.
It's also important to know about your operating system before you format. For example, if you're going to be reinstalling an older version of the operating such as Windows 98 or Windows ME then you should have a Windows 98 or ME start-up disk to complete the procedure. In this instance, you would restart the system with the start-up floppy in the drive. Upon system boot, you will choose to have CD-ROM support. Once the files load you can then choose to run the format command on your main drive (usually C drive). If you are using Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista the Windows installation process offers "format your hard drive" as an option. Here you would ensure your computer is set to boot from CD-ROM (a setting in your system BIOS), insert the Windows CD and restart the computer. From there you will be on your way to reformatting.

As you can see there are many options to formatting a hard drive. Hopefully this gives you a good understanding that most of the operating systems today do the formatting for you, all you need to do is pick that option as you follow the onscreen steps when you install either your Restore, or Operating System.

Good Luck,

Mark

Installing a hard drive on the eurovox ex5000 pvr stops it workin

if the hard drive is new and not formatted , there will be no operating system for the computer to go past the bios start up
what you will have to do is to get into the bios , select boot preference and select cd as first preference
load an operating system( example win 8) and let the unit boot from the disc
after that has properly installed ,shut down the unit , restart and get the bios back up and change boot preference to hard drive
from then on it should start and boot from the program on the hard drive

I left my ps3 on all night with a movie on pause, and now I can't get it to do anything. I took the movie out and shut the system off for a while and every time i turn it back on the screen is black. what...

I the hard drive might have overheated if you didn't have your system near a fan or source of cool air. Try unplugging the unit for a few hours and let it do a self master reset, and then turning on the unit and see if the hard drive reboots.

Installation of external hard drive

The drive should not be set as "master" if your not booting from it and only using it for storage. Master means the bootable disk that holds the operating system. You should change the setting to slave or cable select. You can format it, but chances are it is already formatted and ready to store. Good Luck, Tim
