Printer not communicating

I install the printer with the cd i got with it, then when it brings up another box which i have to select the cartridges and tick used or knew then go to do a trial print it says printer not communicating i have restarted the laptop each time i make amends, and have unplugged the printer and usb too..

This happened to me and what fixed it was to disable my firewall and THEN install the CD. The computer then recognized the install. Don't forget to put your firewall back up once the printer is running. Let me know if this works for you.

uninstall the driver software and after u restart the computer , reinstall the printer driver in fresh way from the installation cd provided to you. if you do not have one then go to brothers site and download full feature driver/ select the operating system you have xp or vista then click download drivers. put the model number in search box and install the s/w.follow the wizart and that will delp you,.

I just installed a new color cartridge in my 8650 Lexmark printer. The ink cartridge acts as if it is empty. Printer keeps telling me to align cargridge. Worked perfectly before the new ink installed. Not...


  1. On your computer, go to "Start," "Programs," "Lexmark Series." Click "Lexmark Control Program."
  2. Step 2 Select the "Cartridges" tab. Click "Change Cartridges." The Change Cartridges screen appears, displaying the animated instructions for installing or changing cartridges. When you have finished viewing the animation, click the "Finished" button.
  3. Step 3 Remove the tape covering the print head of the new print cartridge. Insert the new print cartridge as shown in the animation.
  4. Step 4 When the "Choose Cartridges" screen appears, select the cartridge(s) you installed in your printer from the list boxes. Click the appropriate box to reset the ink levels to full. Click "OK."
  5. Step 5 The Automatic Alignment screen appears. Click "Align" to align the print cartridges for best print quality. The printer prints a page with a bi-directional alignment pattern. On the printed test page, locate the number that comes closest to forming a straight line under the bi-directional alignment pattern. Enter that number as the bi-directional alignment setting in the Alignment Cartridge dialog box. Click "OK."

Resetting the Ink Counter When an ink tank is replaced, the ink counter must be reset. The low ink warning is only displayed properly if the ink counter is reset.

Message Prompting Confirmation of Ink Tank Replacement
If an ink tank is removed, the printer will output a message prompting you to confirm replacement of the ink tank at the start of the next print job.
When an ink tank has been replaced, follow the procedure below to reset the ink counter. The low ink warning is only displayed properly if the ink counter is reset.
Important
If infrared communication is performed in Windows XP or Windows 2000, the printer will not output the message asking for confirmation of ink tank replacement.
Reset the ink counter from the printer driver when you replace the ink tank.

1 Check the message, and click Yes.

Note
Mistakenly clicking No instead, will prevent the low ink warning from functioning properly. If this happens, be sure to open the driver's Properties dialog box and manually reset the ink tank counter in the Maintenance tab.


2 Select the replaced ink tank, and click OK.
The dialog box allows you to select the replaced ink tank.
When both black and color ink tanks have been replaced, select both Black and Color.
If you have not replaced the ink tank with a new one, click Cancel.

3 Select the newly installed ink tank, then click OK

"set ink cartridge" won't go away


Hello. Your ink cartridges need to be set. and if it is not communicating with your computer you need to reload the drivers. ok to reload your drivers, on your computer, click start then right click on computer, then another box will open up. when it does, then left click on properties. then another box will open up. click on device manager. Another box will open up. Look for your printer. You should see it in the list. then what you do is, put the software that came with your printer in your cd/dvd rom drive. then disconnect the cable between the printer and the computer. (NOTE) If you do not have your drivers, then go to www.canon.com, then support, then type in your model number, then go to driver downloads and download your drivers there. If you installed a new operating system on your computer, you will have to download the new compatible drivers for the operating system you have installed. after installing them, then once you locate your printer in that list right click on it. then another box will open up. then click on uninstall. it should uninstall the printer drivers. after that is done, then restart your computer and when your computer restarts, the software for your printer should come up. Then just reinstall the software. after the software is installed, then plug the usb printer cable. your computer should then pop up with a box that says "found new device" It will ask you where to look for the new drivers. if you have the disk that came with the printer, click on that drive that contains the disk with your software. after it installs the new drivers, that should take care of the communication problem. If it does not, then try changing your usb cable. it might be or have gone bad. As far as the message of set ink cartridges, look in the manual on how to set the cartridges. If you do not have the manual, then go to canon support, type in the model number, then download the manual for your printer. That will explain how to set your cartridges. If you set them then you will probably have to realign the heads then you should be all SET. No pun intended. lol Hope this helps. Ron

Canon PIXMA MP190 'not responding'


There are possible causes of this not responding status message you get. you will try out these option i have listed here and see which one resolves the problem. after each one, try to print from a file and from the web.
1. Configure driver to correct printer port
On the 'Ports' tab of 'Printer Properties' window, select the correct port for the printer driver.
From the Windows desktop, open the printer's properties window.
Click the Ports tab.
Below 'Print to the following port(s)' section, select the port to which your printer is connected.
Click 'Apply' to accept the changes.

Click General tab and then click 'Print Test Page' to confirm the changes corrected the issue.
2. Checking USB Connections
You should disconnect and reconnect the USB cable at both ends to ensure there is a secure connection on the device side as well as the computer side. It may also be necessary to try a different USB port on the computer. Additionally, you may need to disconnect other USB devices, temporarily, in order to determine if a conflict exists.
Disconnect one end of the cable and then reseat it ensuring the cable is firmly seated into the USB port. If the USB cable is plugged into a hub instead of directly into the computer, try connecting the USB cable directly into the computer.
Repeat step one to reseat the cable on the other end.
3. If there is still no communication, then it may be necessary to try a different USB cable or a different port on the computer.
when you are through, restart the system.
4. Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver
If the MP Navigator or the MP drivers are no longer required, or if they are not installed correctly, uninstall them.
Caution: Uninstalling means deleting software, such as MP drivers, from the computer. Once the software has been deleted the unit cannot be used through the computer until the software has been reinstalled.
Note: Login as a user with Administrator privileges to uninstall . Turn off any programs running in the background, such as antivirus programs and firewalls before begining.
Select 'Program' (for Windows 2000), or 'All Programs' (for Windows XP / Vista) from the Start menu.
Select the name of the printer model to remove and select 'Uninstall.'
When the MP Drivers Uninstaller window is displayed, click 'Perform.'
When the confirmation window is displayed, click 'Yes.'
When the Uninstallation Complete window is displayed, click 'Complete.'
5. Reinstall the Drivers
Note:
The MP drivers can be installed using Easy Install or Custom Install.
Easy Install automatically installs the software which is in the CD-ROM.
This method is recommended if you are a first-time user.
Custom Install allows you to select the software programs from MP Drivers, Application Software, and On-screen Manual.
Login as a user with Administrator privileges to install on WindowsXP/Vista/2000.
Close any antivirus software that may be running prior to installing the drivers.
Turn off the printer and disconnect the cable connecting the computer and the printer.
Insert CD-ROM in the computer. (The CD-ROM will start automatically and the following window will be displayed on the screen.)
If the setup program does not start automatically, click 'Start' and go to 'My Computer', then double-click the CD-ROM icon.
If you use Windows Vista, select 'Computer' from the Start menu, then double-click the icon of the CD-ROM.
At the main installation window, click 'Easy Install' or 'Custom Install'.
When selecting Easy Install:
(A) Click 'Easy Install'.
(B) Click 'Install' in the following window.

* Display varies according to the printer model.
When selecting Custom Install:
(A) Click 'Custom Install'.
(B) When the following window is displayed, click 'MP Drivers' and the application software to be installed, and then click 'Next'.
* Display varies according to the printer model.
When the License Agreement window is displayed, read the content carefully and click 'Yes'.
The installation will start.
Messages may be displayed during the installation of the application software.
Follow the instructions on the window and continue the installation.

When the Printer Connection window appears, connect the printer to the computer and power on the printer.
Note: If the installation cannot proceed even after 2 minutes, stop the installation by following the procedures below and start from the beginning again.
1) Click 'Cancel' at the Printer Connection window then click 'Start Over' at the Installation Failure window.
2) At the window to install the driver / applications appears, click 'Back' then click 'Exit'.
3) Restart the computer.
4) Install the printer driver again.

For Windows XP, at the Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, confirm Install the software automatically (Recommended) is selected, then click 'Next'.
Note: The Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box may be behind the Printer Connection window.
In this case, click 'Found New Hardware Wizard' button on the task bar to display the window.

After the files are copied automatically and the dialog box Completing Found New Hardware Wizard window appears, click 'Finish'.

If the Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears again, click 'Finish' again.

At the Print Head Alignment window, click 'Execute'.
Note:
* The Execute button may not appear for all models. In that case, skip to step 13.
* The Print Head Alignment can also be done after the installation of the printer driver.

When the Start Print Head Alignment window appears, load one sheet of A4 or letter size plain paper in the sheet feeder and click 'Print Head Alignment'.

At the Do not start another operation until current one has finished dialog box, click 'OK'.

When the pattern is printed, click 'Next' at the Print Head Alignment dialog box.

At the Installation Results dialog box, check the content then click 'Next'.

The installation of the MP drivers and application has completed. Proceed to the Canon user registration.

If you want to register now, click 'Register'. If not, click 'Next'.
Registration can be done after the MP drivers installation.

Then, Inkjet Extended Survey Program will be launched. If you agree, click 'Agree'. If you do not agree, click 'Do not agree'.

At the Installation completed successfully dialog box, click 'Exit'.

Note: When the Restart button appears, confirm that Restart the system now (recommended) is checked then click 'Restart'.

Wont print at all.

I went out to Lexmark website below.

Click on...drivers and downloads (right above the word shortcuts)
Then select what preferred language...(U.S. English)
This next step is going to require looking at your printer, printer manual, etc. to select which printer you have. Click on the picture then it will bring up the model #s of that particular make..
Then click on that model # it will then take you to what Operating System you are running. Choose from the list.
Once this is done the download may take awhile depending on the internet speed.

Primera Bravo CD/DVD printer -- prints blank


Let the printer repair itself. Got to start menu select the printer then select properties. Go to maintenance menu try all the basic testing. If it still didn't work out, delete the previous driver and install it again, then restart and try printing again.

Printer and computer arent' communicating


no, a missing black cartridge is not the problem. If other USB devices (do you have a usb mouse or camera) work on your HP, you must try the printer on another PC to test the printer is functional. Many outlet stores like Best Buy will allow you to bring in your printer to test it communicating.
