Dell XPS400 No Start!!

Dell XPS 400 Will not start push power button amber light will flash once if i hold it in it will flash every 5 seconds, green light on MB on, Lights on ethernet connector also flash when power button pushed, fan sometimes starts to spin but only for a second, Tried disconnecting everything 1 at a time and starting but all same result, i am sure it overheated just by the amount of dust i found inside. If you fan isn't turning like it should, it is definitely a power supply issue. Go out and purchase a power supply with 250-300 watts...thats a good standard wattage!!

My Dell XPS 435 will not start. The power supply lights up green and when I hit the power button on the front, it will flash amber then go back out. The fans start for a second when it flashes but then...

Without a diagnostic meter to check, it is cheaper to replace the power supply. You could take the power supply into a place that sells computer parts and see if they can test it. They fail, especially OEM and they have a lot of complexity to them .

My dell xps 400 was shutting off and all i was getting was a solid amber light in front. I was able to hold it in for a bit and then press it and turn it back on for about 2 weeks now. It finally shut off...

You more likely had a temperature issue with the CPU.
Had the CPU fan started to sound like an airplane warming up?
If so, you may have finally burned out the CPU.

Yes it's possible that it was reporting a problem with the power supply, but the only way to know for sure is to replace it.

In the meantime, eliminate everything else.
Disconnect power from EVERYTHING except the motherboard.
If it powers up, then it's possible that either your motherboard is failing (and now works under the decreased load), or one of the things you unplugged has failed.

If the unit springs to life, turn it off, and start reconnecting things.
If it fails constantly whenever 1 specific thing is plugged in, that thing or the motherboard chip that controls it is the problem.

Don't starts yellow light flasing

If the power button on the tower is flashing Amber, the fault is the power supply. Replace the power supply and they system should work.
If the power supply doesn't resolve then the 2nd most likely failure is the Front IO panel (Circuit card behind the power button)

Dell XPS 200 Computer shuts off leaving blinking amber light

3 most common solutions to your problem are:
  1. Bad power supply; once it heats up will quit without warning
  2. Bad heatsink/fan; processor heats up and will lock up your Pc
  3. Bad motherboard
Try opening the machine and give the inside a thorough cleaning, paying special attention to the heatsink and fan. Once clean and you've ensured the fan is operating, put it back together and see if your problem is fixed. If not, a new power supply will likely fix your problem. Best of luck.
