This just happened to us right before it stopped heating all together. Turns out there are 4 thermostats on this dryer and it was a fuse for one of them that was the problem. The true model number is 11096273800. After we replaced the faulty thermostat, everything was back to normal.

I suggest you to check your timer to see it is working proparly.

some times if the DRYER is not AUTOMATIC SHUTING off is fue to the TIMER.

1.- the timer will advances when the thermostat is satisfied the heat.

2.- the timer would advance quickly to the end of the cycle and the clothes would dry properly.

I recommend checking your lint screen and the exhaust vent system to the outside of your house first. Make sure that the flexible vent behind the dryer is not kinked or clogged. Make sure that the exhaust duct to the outside is not restricted or clogged.

DRYER WILL NOT SHUT OFF ON AUTOMATIC SETTING

Most of the time when a dryer won't shut of in automatic, it is because the sensors inside the drum are bad and cannot sense when the clothes are dry. If your dryer works good on a timed dry then is probably the moisture sensors.

Why do the Automatic cycles on my Whirlpool Duet Electric Dryer not always work?

In some dryer's the control panel relies on a thermistor rather than a CYCLING thermostat to regulate the drum's air temperature by monitoring the component's resistance changes; resistance goes down as temperature increases and up when temperature decreases. Once the drum's air temperature reaches a certain level required to dry clothes, the control panel shuts off the heater. The panel will turn the heater on again and begin another heating cycle when the thermistor indicates that more heat is needed to keep the air temperature constant inside the drum

Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle. Which are reflected by the thermostats.

I wonder if maybe your wire is attached to the sensors? If it vibrated off the connection that could be the problem. Here is a video I made which shows how to connect the wire:

It will not automatically turn off when running, the knob does not turn while running.

Miss Stephanie you must replace the timer.
If you have a timed dry setting. Run timed dry. If it does not shut off timer is bad.
If it does shut off you have a sensor problem.
