Question about Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-EZ1004X Notebook
Saturday night we downloaded AVG onto our laptop as our McAfee was about to expire. All was fine. We had internet connection for laptop and X-box Live.
Sunday I switched the laptop on and I had a message from AVG which said something along the lines of ''do I want to name the files that will be tracked'' so I gave it a name and clicked apply to all ( or something similar). I don’t know if this is the cause of the problem?
Sunday morning we had internet connection for X-Box live but trying to load internet on our laptop wouldn’t work - just kept saying ''connecting'' but nothing happened. My husband tried a few things, tried reinstalling the Talk Talk dvd again to try and re-set everything. That didn’t work. Switched router off - the usual stuff!
Contacted Talk Talk - advised numerous things - did a few tests - nothing. They said go back to Carphone Warehouse. All the set up is there but we couldn’t get the router to talk to the laptop.
Contacted Geek Squad technical support - spent 2 hours on the phone! Took McAfee off - reinstalled stuff - removed stuff - nothing. Was informed it could be a problem with the network card? Or Hardware problem? But now we have NO INTERNET CONNECTION AT ALL. The light has gone off and we have NO X-box either now.
Contacted Toshiba who ran a software check - that was all fine.
It seems that everyone is saying similar things - that there may be a firewall causing the issue? But why would that stop the connection of the internet?
Toshiba have told us now to try and do a product recovery which means backing up then wiping the whole thing and reinstalling.
What do you think might be the main cause - do you think it could be a hardware fault? if so, why would that affect the whole internet connection?
2 anti-virus on 1 computer will conflict with one another. uninstall your mcafee first then go to AVG's site if you need help with the firewall. http://www.avg.com/faq.keyw-firewall#tba2
