Question about Refrigerators

SubZero Model 532 (1994) Refigerator/Freezer:

SubZero Model 532:

Built 1994

Top of refrigerator just inside the fridge door
has condensate collecting and eventually dripping onto the floor. I ''inherited'' this fridge from previous tenant who SWEARS that it is was caused by a missing part from the door hinge, and that it was a simple matter to fix.
Someone else told me that this part very often
''breaks off''. But both those folks have disappeared, and I can get no more info on it.

Plastic rack just inside of door just barely, barely grazes center frame of fridge, but still closes at the bottom and side farily well, albeit ''off-kilter'', so to speak. It's the top of the door that doesn't seal well, where the condensate is dripping down from... Fridge door seems to lean into the freezer door, and out into the room--if that makes sense....

HELP !!! What part is it? How much is it? Can I install it myself? (I'm handyman-challenged, so to speak, but I'm willing to try
it if it's easy....

Does any of this make sense to anyone?

    To ndc3668:

    I had the opposite problem. When I connected the
    ice-maker to a water source, I had a lot of trouble turning the ice-maker off.
    I don't remember what I did other than try numerous differnt positions of the arm and then, and maybe this was the key, I waited quite a while, a day or two, to get the setting to "take effect"--it seems ice that was already "in the pipeline" came out no matter what setting I had the arm on.
    I also have read a lot of posts regarding that the ice "bucket" was hard to set correctly. Mine didn't even come with an ice bucket, but even without it, it kept spewing out ice nonetheless until I could find the correct position for the arm.

    Hope this helps....

My SubZero 550 Regrigerator/freezer is not making icecubes. Any ideas

    I have an update for my SubZero 550 ice maker problem---it just stopped making cubes. I e-mailed the SubZero consumer service line and received a generic response so I just kept trying to trouble-shoot on my own. Per the owner's manuel, I removed the bottom kick-panel, peeked in and everything seemed fine, but I left it off for 24 hours (just a factor to keep in mind). It was very humid outside so I thought perhaps condensation caused a blockage in the water line (although I have no reason to know that is possible)---so, I shut off the freezer twice in two days, for 2-3 hour periods each. The next day, NOT IMMEDIATELY, it started making cubes again. So far, so good.

It is perfectly normal for the refr door on a side by side Subzero to stick out a little further than the freezer door. That light could mean several things. If you have vacuumed the condenser then you should call a repairman to look at it.

Hello. My freezer part of my subzero 690 is getting too cold. The temperature has dropped to -8. My normal setting is zero. I tried raising the setting to +5 with no effect. I tried turning the whole...

check u tube for problem solving videos.

There are a number of great troubleshooting u tube videos, which show you what to look for and many of the fixes are really simple and are universal for all fridges. The simplest is that you left a door open, moisture got in and froze causing ice to build up, so you have to thaw it totally, not just turn it off. I moved my older subzero and think one of the tubes must have been knocked and it lost its Freon, so stopped cooling. The cost of having it recharged was so prohibitive (ie environmental disposal issue meant it had to be moved to a special location fixed and moved back at my expense or Subzero said it was a closed unit and you had to replace the whole thing$ 1,300 for the condenser alone) so, I tossed it + bought another used one until my renovation was done.

Generally with any fridge, there seems to be 2 possible Simple reasons:
1. DEFROST MODE PROBLEM it is stuck in defrost mode
. a)the defrosting tube is plugged

b)The tube or thermostat is frozen, most likely because someone left the door open or the seal is poor;

c) termostat defective-untube video explained how to test circuit;
4. CONDENSER ISSUES: the condenser coolant gas is low and can be easily recharged- see the u tube how to video;
5. Condenser is dirty and cannot breathe- vacuum it;
6. The condenser overheated and needs replacing . 4-6 will have the condenser blowing cool not warm air.

I have had this problem with the fridge portion of my SUBZERO bottom freezer and Subzero (and a repair person ) gave me some good advice, which should also apply to yours, but you might want to call them yourself:
1. Simplest fix- if the defrost tube is blocked or frozen, the defrost cycle will stick on preventing cooling (either freezing up or heating for the defrost cycle not cooling); Some subzero models are especially prone to this. I could see part of my tube inside the fridge on the back wall close to the bottom where it drains and removed the panels to expose and clean it;
2. You should pull it out and unplug it to get it to defrost fully. After doing that once, I made sure my fridge was on a separate circuit or switched!! Yours might not be the same, but on mine the tubes run through the fridge to get to the freezer so both parts have to defrost;
3. Subzero fridge and freezer each have their own independent condensers, so you might be hearing the condenser for the fridge running, even though one part is turned off.
4. Check the thermostat to see if it is working. There is a good u tube video on this.
5 Some of the u tube videos show how to "recharge" the Freon. Subzero told me these are sealed units and could not be done, so regardless of the problem, the condenser had to be replaced. The subzero repair person was really helpful + checked the Freon or gas level (Mine was old enough that it was Freon not the newer environmental stuff) so they would have to haul it away to drain and recharge it + then the condenser might still have to be replaced.

Good luck

Joan

Subzero model 532 fridge not cooling well, freezer ok

Did u check condenser on the top behind the grill? If it's clean, check unit for evaporator freon leaking. Light....Possibly bad bulbs behind that plastic light cover or light switch - one of them located on upper portion of door frame.

Water leaks from underneath

Make sure your drainage tube is not plugged.
Check inside the back of your fridge to make sure the little cup that collects condensation from your freezer compartment is not plugged with food or ice.
(I had that happen in my fridge,different model). I had lots of water on the floor of the fridge until I found this solution here on fix-ya.
Also, make sure your fridge is set right for the the humidity levels you have may experience.
Get a hold of the manual for your fridge if you don't have it, and make sure freezer is not too cold.
If you have a lot of condensation on the outside of your door, look inside your freezer and try some different settings.
I'm not sure if this helps at all. Try blowing with a blow dryer on your condensation container area on the inside of the fridge.
I'd love to know if this helped.

I have the same problem, and thermador stated there was a recall on the hinges. They are replacing the hinges to a newer stronger hinge that will pull the refrigerator doors in tighter. It took three different service companies to find the answer to this problem because I was told Thermador does not want anyone to know about this issue they have.

Subzero model 650 refrigerator

If the light keeps coming back on and temps are rising in the refer section, then you most likely have an evaporator leak. Check to see if you see either a moist spot or ice on the back wall on the left side of the back wall of the refer. If you do, it's definetly a leak. Call a authorized Servicer.

Water collecting in refrigerator and ice collecting in freezer

sounds like you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you access to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somewhere,pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wire around the heater( black heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now every time the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over
