This has worked for me in the past a few times:

Hold down the eject button while turning off and on or
press eject rapidly while turning off and on
Continue turning off and on a few times. Your basically tricking the dvd player and getting it to open before it has time to realize that there is a disc in

I have a PHILIPS DVP3962. My DVD player used to play where I left off watching my DVDs, but recently, when I turn it off and turn it back on, it starts from the beginning of the DVD. Dose anybody know why...

Resume function is wiped from the player's memory buffer whenever the unit is switched to standby (either with the [POWER] button on the main unit, the remote or turned off at the wall), the disc is removed, or the [STOP] button is pressed twice (either on the front or via the remote).

(The simplest thing you can try is to insert a DVD, play a few minutes of its main title, press [STOP] once, not twice, leave it for 10 minutes, then press [PLAY] - it should resume, and thus continue your movie from where you left off)

Resume is considered 'temporary memory' in DVD devices, and therefore is not intended to store the playback point of the disc permanently whenever power is lost, [STOP] is pressed twice or discs are ejected.

However, this is relatively normal, and is not a fault, but it can be annoying to the user.

The password 136900 isn't workin on my Philip dvp3962

Try using the password 136900. If this works for you, then using your remote, access the general setup menu and choose the Disc Unlock option.
Hope this helps!!

The colors are wrong on the screen. everything is orange and green and pink. just started after 6 months of perfect play. changed hdmi cord and port and that didn't help. it may be from overheating, but is...

Not a solution, but this will still allow you to watch DVDs until you carefully research customer feedback on DVD players. (Which I didn't do when I bought my DVP3962!)

That happened to me after 6 months. I used the A/V cables, then after a week or so I tried HDMI again. It worked for another 5 months, and is now crazy colors again.

AZ5737 philips DVD says NO DISC after inserting the disc.;please help

Clean the lens with a soft cotton cloth but be careful not to touch it with bare hands. Make sure the lens is not soiled with dust.
Note: if it says 'NO DISC" immediately after closing the tray, check capstan motor if spins smoothly. It is the one spinning the disc. Open the unit's casing to have a view of the disc when playing. If it doesn't spin, replace capstan motor.
Check also for abnormal heating of any IC on the module. Replace if there's any.
