SOURCE: no picture or sound, light comes on in the front and have to unplug tv to turn it off.

I had this exact problem on my Vizio 47" HDTV. I removed the speakers and all the screws on the back cover. Took the cover off and located the fuses on the largest circuit board. The are in the upper right hand corner of the board. There are 3 of them in a row labeled LF 1.5, LF 3.0 and LF 3.0. The are white in color with copper ends. I took a volt meter and measured continuity across all fuses individually and found the LF 1.5 to be blown. The guy at the electronics store sold me a barrel 1.5A fuse and told me to soldier it across the top of the blown fuse. It took an extra set of hands but the TV works perfectly.

SOURCE: TV COMES ON NO PICTURE OR SOUND

If screen is gray glowing, the T-CON is bad or it is not getting the 12vdc from the logic board. You may have problem with logic board but do some voltage checking first.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:

Testimonial: "I am not much of a do it yourself guy when it comes to electronics but I think I might give this a try--this gives me a good place to start--I'll check your trouble shooting guide and then the voltages and see if I can fix this--I have already replaced the TV but if I can get it going I'll have one for the spare bedroom---thanks for your advice. Wont turn on but tries too come on,power light blinkink

Internal power supply failure. Was there a lightning storm in your area recently or utility work being done recently? This two things usually kill TV's and other electronics with surges when power is restored. If the set is under warranty call the manufacture, if not, call you homeowners insurance agent to see if the damage is covered w/or w.o. deductible. At least you can get something toward repair/replacement costs. Future fix, purchase and install a surge arrestor in your main AC panel for the whole house or buy a power strip with a built in surge filter/protector for your expensive equipment.

Lightning struck and now no picture on my tv- sound works tho

I think the digital input selector section has got affected. I suggest it is better to refer it to a qualified service technician, since the back cover has to be opened for investigation.

Hi, You should have unplugged your set in a storm like that. You should have had a surge protector too. I believe you will be looking at a big repair bill. Good luck.

I was able to fix this issue by changing the screen resolution to auto on the home theater system. Since I had no picture on my tv, I had to unplug it and plug it into another tv. Once connected to the other tv, I was able to access the menu and change the resoultion to auto (it had been reset to 480dpi, this is why it didn't work on my main tv). After I set it to auto, I was able to get it all to work. My niece had been playing with the button in front of the device and apparently the sequence of opening the DVD tray and pressing the stop button causes the screen resoultion to reset to 480dpi.

Hi there! If you have a decoder and this was plugged in on the panel it may have damaged the input board. Alternatively have the decoder checked first or try another TV on the same decoder. Lightning can hit the dish and run down through the line into the decoder and/or into the TV. Best Wishes and Good Luck, JUS004

If its after a lightning storm, it really could be anything. Your mainboard could quite possibly be shot. In fact almost anything in the TV could be damaged by a big surge. It could even be that your backlights went out from the surge too.

Does your power LED come on? What is it connected to? Directly to the power board or is it connected to the mainboard? If you have current through all the circuit boards, you may have a burnt tuner or chip on the mainboard.

Might not be worth fixing depending on the size/model. If its a big LCD, you could probably get a good deal on a working one of the same size with a broken LCD panel (~$100). Then you can just replace the broken LCD panel with yours and you have a fixed TV.

My tv went dead during a lightning storm. I heard

The sound could have come from one of your power capacitors. You could tell if one of them is no longer operational by looking at them; they will be burned, or blistered, or will be bulging. If this is a CRT type of TV ensure that you only look inside if you are fully aware of how to deal with the lethal voltages that are stored on the inside of the unit.

Screen froze during lightning storm. no picture now. When powering on screen lights and then dims - no picture, no sound

You might have had a power surge.Try unplugging your TV for 5 minutes and plugging it back in. If you cannot get a picture from any device such as a DVD player and cable then your TV needs serviced call a repair man. Good Luck!
