the blurriness is not caused because of any configuration or holding the camera in a weird way. Nothing is blocking any of the camera's sensors.

the same exact way i take a picture will sometime be perfect and sometime will get blurry and out of colores

This is problem with the sensor. See this link. Canon has acknowledged issues with sensors in some model cameras, including the S400. Instructions are provided on the link to have your camera repaired at no cost, regardless of purchase date. If you don't live in the US, contact your regional Canon service agency. This service notice is effective world-wide.

Play around with diffrent settings, try with flash on and off. You can also reset the camera, there should be a reset or initialize option in the settings that will restore the camera to the factory default settings and it should return to normal, if not play around with the settings and try diffrent things to see if it improves.

blury might come from out of focus shot or shaking hands/camera (out of focus also)
I think it comes down the settings and its not a real fault or anything serious.

you can also use a photo edition program picasa has some features, a better one is photoshop. with those programs you should be able to correct color problems, blurry pictures on the other hand would need to be retaken, or if you wish you could edit the picture with a edit program "zoom out" and make the picture smaller so it looks better. But for optimal results retake the picture.

let me know if you need further assistance.

is the camera covered by warranty? have you contacted your dealer to see if you can get it replaced or repaired for free if its under warranty.

The advisory hasn't expired for the S500. You might want to recontact that supplier who gave you the so-called "discount". Only contact Canon, and noone else, regarding this issue.

Yes, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free worldwide, and may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Applicable cameras include:
A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110, IXUS V2/V3/300/400/430/500/II/IIs, IXY Digital 200a/300a/320/400/450/500/30/30a

Canon had manufacturing issues regarding memory errors and also the CCD. They will fix this free of charge. Even if the camera is out of factory warranty. Contact Canon. They were very helpful and fixed the same issues on my S400
