Sony trinitron wont bring sound or picture

i have a sony trinitron model kv pg 14p40 colour tv. when i switch it on it goes into the standby mode.when i press the programme switch in order to select a channel, it starts blinking about 4 times then stops for about a second then repeats the blinking.what can the problem be?

-   No picture or sound. red lite blinks 4 times, pauses ans starts again. Have done all procedures in manual to restore tv . No help.-   Guest
