Replace Rudd Achiever 10 ???

My Rudd Achiever 10 had the fan motor replaced and repairman left saying it was all fixed. However, I could not get cold air. It would blow but not cold. He came back and said freion was Ok but compressor had gone out. How does it blow if that is true? He says I probably need a new unit (this is 17 yrs old) rather tan replacing compuressor. Something doesnt sound right. He did not know what the cost of a new unit would be. I may better cut my losses and run. What can I expect to pay for a new unit? What to do? Get estimates? Any answers will be appreciated.

If the fan motor outside let go it could overheat the compressor which he should have known before he replaced the motor. also there is no way of knowing if there is enough freon in the system if the compressor does not start, your best bet is to get another repairman as a second opinion

Rudd air conditioner outside fan won't start

I just had the same problem. I replaced the motor with no luck. It turned out to be a bad capacitor. If it is a dual capacitor, three prongs on top, it also starts the compressor. It is recommended to replace the capacitor anytime you replace a motor. I would try replacing the capacitor first. It is a lot cheaper that a new motor. If that does not fix the problem then you can get a motor. No harm, no foul. The slow start of the motor is a common symptom of a bad capacitor. The motor is not getting enough voltage. The capacitor increases the voltage like a transformer. It will boost it to almost 400 volts, depending on your unit.

I have a RUDD Achiever 11. The outside fan only intermittently runs and seems to quit in the evening (overtime for the air condo techs). It won't start again until the morning but when it runs, it blows...

Two possible problems here.
1. you have a bad condenser fan motor. average cost $140.00 for the part plus installation if you can't do it. just buy the motor you most likely will be able to use the existing fan blades.
2. you have a bad run capacitor on that fan. avg cost $5.00 - $35.00 plus installation
In my opinion if you're handy and safe with electicity save some money, if not have it done.
check out grainger.com for the parts they're very reasonable. for the fan you'll need to get specs from the defective unit like amp. voltage rpm. its all on the unit itself. for the run capacitor you'll need the same. all the info u need is on the parts. search the site for run capacitor or condenser fan motor.
good luck hope this helps

Rudd Achiever series model RQNJ-AO42JK 000 mfg

Turn the thermostat as low as it will go and have someone stand out side, they should here the condensor fan and compressor come on at the same time. They are two distinctive sounds so you should
be able to tell if the compressor is running.

If nothing happens and you are skilled with electrical
you can turn power off and remove the electrical
cover to the outside unit. Restore power and carefully
push in the contactor, if the fan and compressor
starts you have a thermostat or low voltage problem.

If just the outdoor fan runs on any attempt, more than likely you need a new capacitor.

Need Fan Motor and Capacitor

The best place is from rudd the cheep price will leave a bad taste in your mouth long after you replace it with after market parts. And the cost will be double. My experience in buying aftermarket parts almost cost me my business when the parts failed and I had to replace for free. Once you plug in a electrical part you own it. Take my advise don't save money on a aftermarket part unless you want to pay for it's repair twice. How ever if you still want to do this look in the yellow pages in your phone book in your town for any motor re-winder and they can get you one. or look on the net with your zip code for the closest rewinder.

Take the front panel off the air handler and look for a heat element. You should notice controls and relays with larger wiring to it. It may not have any heat but you can add it.

Ruud Achiever 10, outside Fan wont spin unless I help it.

The part you are talking about is called a capacitor. They come in various voltages and ratings. The best thing to do would be to find the rating tag on the motor, and look for the capacitor rating. There are many, many different sizes and types, so it is best to consult a proffesional before attempting to replace it on your own.

Rudd achiever 10 a/c will not kick on and some line is frozen in the unit.

The line will have to be thawed out with hair or air dryer. This may have frozen other components as well including a/c compressor relay or capacitor giving power to a/c compressor or motor unit

Ruud achiever 10 seer air conditioner

It sounds like your condenser fan motor may be locked up or the capacitor that helps give the condenser fan motor a kick to get it started may be defective. Try turning your system on and using a long screwdriver try to push the fan blade on the condenser fan motor to see if it will run normally if you give it the starting boost it needs. If it does run at full speed and doesn't over heat or start and then slow down then you probably only need to replace a simple 10-12$ capacitor. If it barely turns, makes an odd humming sound or overheats etc. then you will have to replace the condenser fan motor. This is assuming that the outdoor condenser has the 220v supplied and the 24v supplied to the compressor relay, that the compressor relay is engaged and suppling 220v to the condenser fan motor.
