Question about Nortel T7316E 2-Line Corded Phone

1 Answer

My phone won't quit ringing

We have four lines that ring in on a Nortel phone system T7316E. It is set up to have the auto attendant answer the phone after two rings and then direct the call. However, my phone rings each time someone calls in. My boss's phone does not ring unless someone is being directed to his extension. I have gone into the feature part of the phone and entered my password. I have looked through all of the options, but still cannot figure out how to keep my phone from ringing unless they are being directed to my phone.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I looked under there but the only options listed are: Capabilities Name, User Preferences, Restrictions, and Telco features... I have been looking for several days now...

  • naomi_sherma May 12, 2009

Sorry - I didn't know it would rate you. I have never used this before. I can get into the system, so I must be using the right password, right? Or is there multiple passwords to get into different sections?

Thanks so much, it solved it for me!! :-)

Keep looking under Terminals and Sets for your extensions. Lines either Appear or Appear and Ring.

Wow, now you have trouble because you gave me a poor rating and you're using the wrong password to get into the system.

    Sorry 'bout your luck.

The answer is a FixYa. You just have to get into the right program.

Here's the problem with FixYa. You got the right answer but it didn't help you because you were logged into the wrong program.

So your proper answer didn't help you and it counts against me.

Of course, FixYa could help us out by making you post your question in the proper place, but you're looking at a "T" terminal and the programming for the sytsem is in the Key Service Unit.

Fortunately, the "T" phones only work on ICS or higher sytems, so the answer for a CICS is the right one. In a CICS, there are 3 levels of programming. Installer is the highest class, System Administrator the lowest and System Coordinator is the one you need to gain access to the lines.

Here's a list of what the 3 passwords get: Lowest is in yellow, the gray section is for installers and white and yellow is plus access.

For fun, you might try SCPLUS as a password.

When I put my t7316E on "night" it only rings half ring then sends call to answer machine, Any way to change to a few rings so I can answer it if needed

That is generally how Night mode works - alerting you to a call then directing the caller to voicmail night message. You want to change the Forward No Answer setting in that mode; if your system doesn't support that, set FNA in regular (non-Night) for the attendant phone.

I have 7 Nortel t7316E handsets with only one ringing on all calls received I need to program another phone to ring also so I can have another person answer phones from another extension.

You will need to change the programming for the ext that you want to have the lines appearing on.
Enter programming - Feature **266344
PW - 266344
Press the show key - (top right arroe that is lit on the display)
Enter the ext # you want to change
this will bring you to line appearance press top r arrow
line assignment press top right arrow
show line - enter 001,002 or whatever line(s) you want to ring.
press the change softkey for each line to appear and ring instead of unassigned. Press the next (bottom r arrow) to go through each line after entering 001....
then release.
*** Make sure the sets you change are not forwarded to voicemail after a certain amount of rings otherwise all calls ringing on the newly programmed set will go to that persons voicemail.

Nortel/Norstar ICS phone system - Calls go to wrong voicemail on calls forwarded with NA

Check the forward no answer setting for number of rings on each extension that has ringing lines. The number of rings should be more than the auto attendant is set to answer with.

Rings twice and goes to general mailbox

Just have to go into vmail system and change the the number of rings till the vmail system answers (in this case 4); check your greeting table make sure the right one is assigned to the lines in question (each line can have a diiferent one or the same); and also make sure the right greeting is assigned to the greeting table you want to use.
Do you have a program manual? If so, it has some sample proramms that would give you a "picture" of this is done, plus flow charts.

How do I program the line redirection feature

If you switched phone companies and the feature stopped working you probably had Call Forward Busy/No Answer from AT&T. If you use the call forwarding in the phone it will use two phone lines for the entire length of the call. Call Comcast and have them add Call Forward Busy/No Answer and tell them the number you would like your calls forwarded to and the ring cycle (the number of rings on no answer).

Somewhere on your set theres probably a night key that was accidently pressed. It might or might not be marked as such, but there should be an indicator (triangle) on the screen that shows that its on. TO turn off press the night key again. The indicator should go off.

Night ring change the number of rings

Auto Attendant
Answer Lines
1 – Feature 983
2 – Log: Dial 1020000 (3-digit DNs) or 120000 (2-digit DNs)
3 – Press AA
4 – Press LINES
5 – Line number: Dial line number (001-xxx).
6 – Line:xxx Ans:No Press CHNG to AA if auto attendant will always answer theline. If a Night Service key will be used to activate auto attendant answering, leave Ans: at No.
7 – If line has been changed to Ans:AA, press * then press TABLE.
8 – If Table:1 is OK press RINGS. (Table 1 is the default greeting table. Change to a different table (1-4) if alternate answering is required on the line being programmed.)
9 – Rings:0 – Press CHNG, dial number of rings before auto attendant answers the line, or leave at 0 for immediate answering. Allow at least 2 rings if CLID is in use.
10 – Repeat for each line to be programmed.

Notes For Night Service Mode Auto Attendant Answering
If the auto attendant will only answer lines in night service mode, line answering should be set to No as per step 6 above. Using night service will cause the AA to answer lines immediately.

Programing my nortel t7316e charcoal to access whole phone lines

If you are fmailiar with the programming of the system, you must set the lines (3-8) to appear and ring on the extensions.

Assuming you have a later release MICS or CICS:

Press Feature ** 266344, then the installer password.
Press Show at Terminals and Sets, enter ext #.
Press Show until you are asked for the line number, then scan through the line appearances, and change to "Appear Only" on the lines you don't want to ring at that set.

Repeat for each extension you want to change.

DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH PROGRAMMING.....

Number of rings before answering system goes on

You can adjust the Answer Delay time by going to Menu then DTAD. Adjust the Answer Delay under this menu... 6 seconds per one ring.

If you have auto attendant set up to answer for you in a multiline system, set that delay accordingly. That will be the first system to pick up, You should set up one auto attendant for every voice line coming into your phones.
