A copper thin tube from the unit is very hot. Is it normal?


Yes, well somewhat normal. The refrigerant leaves the compressor at high temperature and flows through the condenser coil where it cools about 20 degrees warmer than the outside air flowing through the condenser. Many small air conditioner units use a small copper tube (capillary tube) of a specific diameter and length for that system to cause a decrease in refrigerant pressure between the condenser and the evaporator. The refrigerant leaves the compressor as a gas at high pressure, cools in the condenser and changes into a liquid. The liquid flows through the cap tube and cools more as the pressure decreases and gets closer to the evaporator. The refrigerant boils and evaporates under the low pressure of the evaporator and turns back into a gas. That gas is pulled back to the compressor.
If the condenser is not cooling the refrigerant enough, the tube can become extra hot. Efficiency is reduced. Actual temperatures throughout the system depend on the type refrigerant used, suction and discharge pressure at the compressor, outside and inside temperature. Tables, charts and graphs for various pressure-temperature relationships can be found in refrigeration books and chemical web sites.

Hello, some window units do not use a drain tube instead they use the condenser fan blade to scoop the condensate from the bottum of the base pan and splash the condenser coil to keep the condenser cool and also evaporate the condensate. Most of the time you can hear a "swishing sound"

  • Dirty condenser -- The condenser is the heat exchanger mounted in front of the radiator. It cools the high pressure refrigerant vapor after it exits the compressor so it can condense into a liquid. If the condenser is full of leaves, bugs and road debris, air flow through the unit may be blocked to the point where little cooling occurs. Cleaning the condenser should cure the problem.

    I just went out to my 2002 Volvo XC70 and turned on the car. The A/C would not come on. I just had the compressor replaced a couple of months ago. Could it be a fuse? thanks for any help.

    It could be any of a number of things: be sure and check the fuses and relays under the hood in that fuse panel , also the mail switch inside ,, you can jumper those contacts to see if it's the switch , here are some other ideas

    tubing at the back refrigerator is the condenser, function of this is heat rejection that absorb from your evaporator inside your refrigerator,the white part of holding tube condenser is tube holder mounted by screw to hold condnser tubing has no relate inr efrigetration cycle.the screw use on tube holder was directly pin at the back side of eveporator where cooling effect emerge some ice melted or defrosted form water pass through on screw tube holder,you can fix loosen screw have some sealant pathced to hole where srcew located after a minute of drying time screw it again so that water leak may not come out to that tube holder through your condenser,
    well,if that leak does not harm or not make any trouble passing through your condenser its still good condenser need to be cooled so that refrigerant inside tube can flow on liguid state effeciently.on large refrigeration such as ice plant
    condenser was designed to have a water shower on tube called evaporative system.it make coole the condenser tube.

    Amana window air conditioner unit keeps freezing.


    There are 2 causes for freezing. Lack of air flow or shortage of Freon. After defrosting, start the machine and look for an even pattern of water condensing on all the coils. If the cooling is even and complete on all the coils, see if the coil is so dirty that it restricts the air flow. The fan blade can build up dirt and need to be cleaned, too. If the cooling (condensation) is not complete, you have a Freon problem. Some of it could have leaked out or the metering tubes could be partially pllugged up (on the inside of them).
