LG RH266 setup with freeview tv

I can't find out how to get the LG RH266 DVD Recorder to pick up the channels from the built in Freeview on the TV the recorder is connected to. Does it even work with a TV with built in Freeview?

You have come up with some good points that we didn't even think of. Oh well, serves us right for buying off ebay instead of from a store.

One thing though, why are manufacturers making TV's with built in Freeview when you cannot record from it, there are very few people around who don't want to be able to record at least the odd program.

Thank you for your reply Vortash, you have saved me many more hours trying to get the recorder to do something its not capable of.

Sorry to say no it wont not unless the Tv set manuel says it has a Duel Freeview feed , you have to get another freeview box for the recorder .
besides If you used the freview in the tv 1 , the tv would have to be on when you wanted to record ?. and 2 you couldnt watch another channel whilst recording another .. only 1 tuner ?. also you could only record the program you had on .at the time no timer facility .
People are still used to the Old system of VHs and the fact that all videos had tuners built in so you could watch and record .. It will come and indeed some more modern DVD recorder have freeview built in again sorry but thats the facts , and dont forget if you want the pay per view channels on free view your going to need a tuner with a pay card port ... I have just bought a Digihome pvr320sd tv recorder with freeview, can i set it up as a tv recorder only without the freeview as i already have built in freeview on my tv.

When you set up the recorder Freeview stations will be stored. This means that you can record TV stations without watching them. So you can say watch BBC1 on your TV and record a program on Channel Four. You need the recorder set up with Freeview to recorder channels. Otherwise you would have to have your TV on and recorder set to record via the scart lead. Which would be not great quality and messy.
You should be able to loop the aerial lead so that both the TV and recorder can get the signals from your aerial, if that's what is bothering you.

I have a Pioneer DVR5100H which was set up to record Analogue programs - can I change the set up to accept digital programs. I have tried auto setup but it doesn't pick up any programs?

Hi,

You can't record digital programmes with this recorder unless it is connected to a digital tuner, e.g. a Freeview box or Sky digibox. This recorder has a built in analogue tuner which allows it to record analogue transmissions. Recorders which can record digital transmissions have a built-in digital tuner and usually have a DVB logo (actually looks more like DV3) on the front.

If you want to record digital programmes using this recorder, you need to connect it to a Freeview or Sky digibox, preferably with a scart cable. It is not sufficient to connect it to a TV with a digital tuner or built in Freeview as the player does NOT record directly from the TV, it must be connected directly to the transmission source. A basic stand-alone digital tuner (Freeview box) can be bought for as little as £10-15.

BElectric

LG BUILT IN FREEVIEW TUNING FOR ALL STATIONS

ON THE MENU THERE IS MANUAL AND AUTO SEARCH.THERE IS ALSO A BUTTON MARKED" FINE" WITH DIRECTIONAL ARROWS.IT SEEMS THIS CAN TWEAK AT THE MARGINS.THEN USING A COMPASS FROM AN ELECTRICAL DEALER I NUDGED THE ANTENNA TO EXACTLY 14 DEGREES EAST OF NORTH USING MY NEIGHBOURS GOOD SIGNAL AS A TEMPLATE. THE UK PRICE OF A DIGIBOX CAN BE AS LITTLE AS $ 21-50 SO A CHEAP ALTERNATIVE COULD BE EXPLORED,IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. SORRY IT IS SO BORING BUT A HAPPY OUTCOME. THANKS VIC POOLE

Similar problem as you helped me solve before.

OK, I think I see the problem there.
The aerial lead from the DVDR to TV should be removed.
You should have it setup the same as the other Freeview - VCR - TV
Nutshell time:
Main aerial to Freeview input.
Loop aerial from freeview output to DVDR areial input (all this does is allow you to watch freeview, or standard both out of the DVDR)
So..
Scart from Freeview to DVDR input
Scart from DVDR output to TV
Set DVDR to AV input mode.
Set TV to AV (whatever number you need for that..you now won't get anything on screen unless you have the right input selected)

If you can now see the Freeview picture on the TV and change the channels with the Freeview remote then you should be set for recording.

Having the aerial and a scart lead both going to the TV is not needed.

How Do We Install

It is probably picking up the airwaves only. Treat it as if it were connected to a satelite dish service. You need to turn the device to channel 2 or 3 (depending on what output channel is specified on the freeview) and from here you can change the channels without having to scan for them. This might be the case but then again, it might not

Recording Problems

Hi.

Yes.
Most tv sets with freeview built in do not allow you to record it.
Check your tv instruction manual to see if it is at all possible.

Can't tune stations from freeview box to DVDR3380/5

You can only record freeview channels through your box.

Assuming the digi-box has two scart sockets, connect as follows:

  • Scart 1 or TV scart of the digi-box to the TV.
  • Scart 2 or VCR/DVD scart of the digi-box to scart 1 of the DVDR3380.
The TV aerial should already be connected through the digi-box and DVDR3380 to the TV

To record from the digi-box, select AV1 / E1 / EXT1 on the DVDR3380
If you are doing timer recordings, you will also need to leave the freeview box on the channel you wish to record, or set the freeview box timer.

Wharfedale DVDRHD400 Set up Issue

Hi I had the same problem. The answer is to use a scart lead on the freeview box and connect it to the input/output scart on the DVD. Then connect a scart lead from the TV out on the DVD to the TV. You then press Video source on the DVD remote until 'scart' is displayed to pick the freeview channels. Hope that helps
