ive tried removing all straps everything please help

I'm having trouble getting the cover off too. What about those plastic parts that the strap goes through and hold the fabric to the seat. Do they pop out or do you have to pull the fabric out?

  • rainytosunny Jun 18, 2008

The manufacturer does have the instruction manual for this car seat on its website. You have to enter a product number and manufacture date (both listed on a sticker on the side of the seat). The directions for removing the fabric cover are toward the end of the manual. You start by removing the base and the straps. I needed a wrench to loosen and pull out the metal bar in the bottom of the base (pushing on a tab at one end of the bar to allow it to slide past). Then you just squeeze the red recline handle and the base comes off. The straps themselves come out fairly easily, but not the plastic guides that the straps go through. The manual says to squeeze the sides of each guide together from the back while you pull from the front at the same time. I had to use pliers to do this. They didn't break, and it wasn't nearly as hard to pop them back in again when I was done. Once you get the four strap guides out, you can work the cover off. I'm still not clear on how to remove the headrest that slides up and down, but luckily my child's unmentionable stuff didn't touch that part. I was able to remove and wash the parts that mattered (straps and cover).

I removed the cover to my Cosco Scenera 5-point convertible car seat and can't put it back

I took the liner out of my grandchild's seat to wash and now can't get it back correctly. The idea of taking pictures is a good one if you read the idea before you have the problem.

Dorel Juvenile Group manufactures these car seats for under the Cosco brand. You should check out their web site.

  • Check out the recall notices and make sure your seat is not listed.
  • Register your car seat so that you are informed of any future recalls.
There does not seem to be any Manuals on their website, but they do list a phone number. 1-800-544-1108

When I took mine apart I did the following.
  • Take many pictures of it first so you can see how it goes back together.
  • Put all of the parts in a container so you don't lose any.
  • Start by removing the screws on the headrests. There are four of them.
  • Using a flat screwdriver on the left side and a pair of pliers on the right (as you are facing it) pull the metal rod from the hinge to the right. Make sure you don't damage the springs.
  • The screwdriver can be used to gently pry the square metal strap anchor from the plastic holder. It is tight!
  • Then fish the anchor through the seat and fabric.
  • The shoulder straps have to go from the front through the fabric.
  • There is a front clip that is located between the child's legs. I had to finesse the fabric cover around this.
I think that is all I did. We washed the cover in COLD water on delicate and soaked it overnight to get it clean. Hang dry!

Third row seat latched on left but not right

I just ran into the exact problem with my 2004 Suburban. Once I got the seat to lay down all the other mechanisms worked as they should and I could get the seat in and out as usuall. I found this post below which explained how to get the seat down. Wish I could take credit for figuring it out on my own but I can't.
"After working on it for a couple of days here is what I did to remove the 3rd row seat.
On the rear lower right and left side there are plastic covers, if you push the seat material forward a little you can see a hole where a nut holds it on, remove the nut. On the left side pull back the plastic cover and you can see the wire and the lever that releases the seat. With my foot holding up the #1 release lever on the right side I used an open end wrench to push forward the left side lever and the seat folded down.
I then used the #2 and #3 levers to remove the seat.
To view the whole cable, open the lower seat cover, it is an overlapping plastic clip, My problem was a loose cable, similar to a brake cable on a bicycle, after fixing it I have had no problems."
To remove the nut I used an 8mm socket wrench. My problem was not a loose cable but the #1 mechanism wouldn't pull up all the way, I'm guessing because that left side locked in out of order. I pushed that left side lever down with a hard tool and had my 5yr old daughter pull up on the #1 and the seat folded right down.
Hope this helps if you havn't already gotten it fixed.

My daughter puked all over her car seat and I need to wash the cover. The instructions say I have to remove the base and the harness to get the cover off....I can't for the life of me get the base off! ...

I imagine you've already fixed this problem by now. I have two of these car seats and it took me the longest time to figure it out. If you still need help, let me know. You're right, the instructions aren't as easy as they seem.

How do i remove my car seat cover?

Go to the manufacturer website and enter the information requested. I was going to do it for you, but you must have information from the label on your seat to go further.
The user manual is downloadable. My son used to get car sick and did the same to me, what a mess.

Ensure you do NOT wash the straps/harness, as it will make it unsafe and you will need to replace it.

They also have an online manual fi that will assist you. I checked my seat, and it is an older snug ride with no straps.

What seems to be a sewn-up loop, is actually easy to unattach, but the trick is not explained in the manual.

Where the end of the strap seems to be holding to the seat's plastic shell, the plastic is not completely connected, there is a break in the plastic. Just move the strap left/right a bit and you will see that you can unattach it there. Then you can unthread the loose end of the strap and completely remove the cover.

Credits for this go to my wife who figured it out after I already thought we should return the seat to the shop. :p
