Tried to turn my Samsung sp43w6hf on. Nothing happens. Power LED turn from green to red when turned on with remote. No picture no sound. The LED will not turn back to green when the power button is pushed but stay red. Help please?

I also noticed that the heatsink on the main audio amp gets very hot as well as the metal bar that it is bracketed to.

I do own a service manual for this TV.

    Thanks for the replies.

I am new to to Fixya and was not sure how much I can post.

Before I posted I did the following:

Checked fuse although I knew it wasn't the problem since the front LED goes.

    Checked solder joints.

Had TV unplugged for more than a day.

Saw all 3 CRT's light up, albeit very faintly.

Tried to isolate (unplug) some areas of PCB.

Looked at the huge capacitor and realised, aint gonna go any where near that thing!

    Scratched my head countless times.

Realised that getting it repaired will cost me half the price of a new LCD.

As the cost of getting this repaired is not economical viable compared to the price and guarantess of a new set, I will just go and buy a non-rear projection TV.

    Thanks for trying to help.

If you're NOT still under warrantee you should at least open the TV and look for a blown fuse near where the power cable enters the set. A lot of times you can buy replacement fuses at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace.
Check the fuse. If it is blown, it will be obvious and make sure that the set is unplugged before replacing it. If it blows again, or if it is not blown, your problem is probably in the 'X' volt regulator and you will need professional help with the repairs.

You can also check the board where the components are mounted and resoled any that look bad. Brief power outages may cause the TV to turn off on its own. If you are using a surge protector, try connecting the set directly to the wall outlet.

In your case it could caused by a blown fuse, a leaky diodes or a bad solder joint at the horizontal drive transformer.
All can be replaced at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace

If this does not correct the problem, you may need to have your TV service.

Thanks
Kevin

It sounds like you may need to replace the power supply board. The red light you are talking usually indicates this type of problem.

Unplug the set for a hour and try again if the problem comes again then the set is on protection mode (standby led on or blinking) and simply won't turn on due to a fault that it has detected. most cases will require the help of a professional tv repairer to get solved. An expert has to test and analyze the set to find the fault from the tv.

a tv has deadly voltages inside even when unplugged and home user repair is never recommended.

If you have not tried it you may want to see if the voltages listed come up with boards disconnected from the power supply one at a time---This could be anywhere from micro to the panel.

Does anything start to work? Any of the three fans start to turn, Lamp ignite, etc., when you press the power button or does nothing happen before the Red LED starts blinking. How many times does the RED LED blink?

Green power light comes on for a split second, then red.

The power supply (AC adapter) is bad. It has enough power to light the red LED, but not enough to power the TV.http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=12+volt+5+amp+power+supply&_sacat=See-All-Categories
