I own this model and found if powered from an isolation transformer type surge protector, with other equipment, this may cause insufficient line voltage to unit. Try plugging directly into wall socket, if that was the case. Otherwise, protect indicates problem with circuit, take to prof. tech for check out.

How do i get my sony DA30ES am -fm reciever out of protector mode

I have a Sony DA30ES - 18 years old now (legal age to smoke knock on wood) and started getting clicking, popping, static and other noise that I could whack out of it for a time but recently started getting 'Protect Mode' and no audio.

I gave it a visual inspection and although dusty inside, no broken fuses, bad solder joints, loose pins/ICs or bloated caps. So I was thinking replacing caps due to the age but after fiddling with it and trying to narrow faulty caps I realized there's a BLACK RUBBER CUBE glued to the bottom of the Main Board accessible when unscrewing the bottom plate. When pressing up on this Rubber Cube the receiver would work no problem. So I think the rubber cube has decayed/shrunk (18 years).

I added cut to size sticky foam pieces (from command strips) directly to the cube to prop-up this section of the Main Board with the bottom plate closed and problem solved. Leave it to Sony to build a superior product 18 years ago that still works beautifully today. Sony's high end products only fail due to rubber belts (walkmans) and pieces like this rubber support cube. Thank you Nihon ES Engineers! ?? ??

The word protector starts flashing a few seconds after the receiver it powered on

It indicates you have an output short circuit.First check if all the speaker cables are all right with no shorting of the wires.Next disconnect all the speakers and try turning it on, if you still get the protect display you have to repair the output stage of the Amplifier. You will have to get professional help for that if you have no experience in electronics.

My sony str- is getting a sony protector check code 22. Is that a fuse problem or do i have to get sony to fix it? napa.king@yahoo.com

Unfortunately this is not a fuse problem, as the fuse would burn before the protector check code appears. Probably there is a short circuit and you should take to an authorized sony repair shop. Good Luck.

My sony str-d1o15 says protector

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the word PROTECT or PROTECTOR is flashing on the A/V receivers display.
  1. Check the speaker wires and speakers for proper connections.
  2. Reduce the volume level. IMPORTANT: If the receiver is played back at maximum volume level it may enter the protect mode. Maximum volume listening will cause the receiver to run very hot and may drain the output capacitors.
  3. Disable the surround sound option if both the A and B speakers are being used simultaneously.
  4. Ensure the top of the receiver has proper ventilation to keep it from overheating.
  5. If the message only occurs when using a DVD player, the sampling frequency may be set too high. IMPORTANT: Some receivers provide compatibility with the higher sampling frequencies through alternate connections. Consult the owners manual for specific information.
  6. Unplug the AC power cord for about 1 to 2 hours to reset the output transformers.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.
