Datacard imagecard m2

hello,
my printer is acting up in a couple ways and i was hoping you could point me in ther ight direction.  whenever i go to print a car it will only print in solid black. halfway through the print job it will either say it cant recognize the ribbon index or it will say the ribbon is broken. i have selected the right type of ribbon and everything. what can be going wrong????
