Best thing to do is take it bake and see if they set it for security reasons and have them unlock it,If they can't,It will need to be flashed since the bios password is not stored like it used to be.

If it can be reset using cmos reset jumper. Or pull the cmos battery for a minute then put it back again. Do this when the unit is off and unplug it to the wall socket.

And be sure its battery is a watch type , it looks like a coin about 2cm in diameter.

Then ask the store where you bought it.

I think you need to borrow someone else's computer to write the information to the blank floppy.

Good luck.

hi there,
if you have access to another computer and the internet, you can download software called password reset/recovery. these come with instructions on how to use. just use one of these to recover/reset your password and you should be able to access your computer again. Hope this helps :)

IBM 8123 not powering on the problem is the start up fan is running continuously.

Hello Dear,

If the Startup FAN is running, means the Power is going to your motherboard and other components. SMPS seems OK. You should check the display cable and CMOS Battery.
Just try to pull out the battery and Make the machien switch ON. (Don't forget to Check the display cable is connected or not).
If it is then means your CMOS battaery is faulty one.

Bypass power on password

Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Remove the CMOS battery.
Wait a few minutes.
Re-insert the CMOS battery.
Reconnect the battery.
Try it.

If all else fails, find your original bill-of-sale, to prove "ownership", and telephone IBM for support.

your bios settings are not saved because of low voltage of CMOS cell.
Change your cmos cell from motherbord.
CMOs cell gives power to bios flash memory so settings saved.

Reset password thinkpad 2656

Resetting the BIOS Password using Software Every system must store the BIOS password information somewhere. If you are able to access the machine after it has been booted successfully, you may be able to view the BIOS password. You must know the memory address where the BIOS password is stored, and the format in which the BIOS password is stored. Or, you must have a program that knows these things.
You can write your own program to read the BIOS password from the CMOS memory on a PC by writing the address of the byte of CMOS memory that you wish to read in port 0x370, and then reading the contents of port 0x371.
!BIOS will recover the BIOS password for most common BIOS versions, including IBM, American Megatrends Inc, Award and Phoenix.
CmosPwd will recover the BIOS password for the following BIOS versions:
  • ACER/IBM BIOS
  • AMI BIOS
  • AMI WinBIOS 2.5
  • Award 4.5x/4.6x/6.0
  • Compaq (1992)
  • Compaq (New version)
  • IBM (PS/2, Activa, Thinkpad)
  • Packard Bell
  • Phoenix 1.00.09.AC0 (1994), a486 1.03, 1.04, 1.10 A03, 4.05 rev 1.02.943, 4.06 rev 1.13.1107
  • Phoenix 4 release 6 (User)
  • Gateway Solo - Phoenix 4.0 release 6
  • Toshiba
  • Zenith AMI
