Question about Whirlpool LSQ9549P Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Cycles are off on standard top load whirlpool washer

The cycle knob which holds the timer and regulates the cycles came off of the machine. A local repair man told me how to put it back on the machine but now the cycles are off. It rinses when it says it is washing, etc. Can I get the cycles back on track? If so how?

    The knob presses on.

There are two holes so I will describe both. 1. The hole where the timer button actually pops in and out is D shaped. This is the hole where a black D shaped stick pops into the front of the machine to secure the knob. 2. Another hole on the back of the timer has a clear plastic liner inside the hole which is totally round and I do not see grooves. There is a red line drawn from the side of that hole onto the timer. It looks like the plastic liner has a smidge of the same red color on it. The red lines are not matching up though.

I am at work at the moment so I will go home in a few for lunch and work on it some more and give that a shot. I will respond back in a bit and let you know how it goes.

The plastic insert will not move and I looked closer and there is no red line on the plastic insert. I think I have to give up and call someone to come to my house.

I can't quite visualise what you're describing, but I belive the key is to get the red marks to align. Can you rotate the clear plastic gizmo, i.e., move it so the marks will align?

Looking into the hole in the back of the timer knob shaft do you see a D-shaped hole, or do you see a bunch of grooves?

Does the knob screw on or is it pressed on?

That's probably a good idea. It's very difficult to fix stuff from this distance. Sorry we couldn't solve it, but at least we got you to the next step.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery 13 cycle commercial HD super capacity washer and it will not change cycles automatically. Is this something I can fix myself?

Yes, you can fix this yourself very easy. You will need to replace the "timer". Here is the part you need to order. To install the timer, you will need to remove the back cover on the control panel and gain access to the timer. Then remove the knob from the timer and release the tab holding the timer in place. Slide the old timer out of the unit once the tab is released and unplug the wires going to it. Re-install with the new timer in reverse order.

Keep me posted!

HI. This problem concerns the integrity of the actual timer mechanism. The dial cogs seems to be worn, and the timer motor may be failing to advance in that particular section of the dial plate. This type of malfunction will require you to replace the timer control mechanism, asap.

Washer Doesnt Change Cycles

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

This appears to be a timer / timer motor problem.

I'd alto look at the Whirlpool / Kenmore direct drive installation and maintenance manual for testing the timer.

I own a kenmore top loading machine model number 110 10 amp 60 hertz 120 volts the machine gets power and runs but the big control knob that controls the diffrent cycles is running only about 20 seconds...

sounds like you should replace timer (big control) timer motor is part of timer. Is timer knob speeding thru cycle that fast or just start/stop.
110 is manufacturer code for whirlpool, number after decimal is model number. tech sheet avail inside console by unsnapping left and right console covers and removing hidden screw at front bottom corners, pull forward slightly then fold console back (hinged at rear top).

My machine will just stop after the adgitate cycle.

Manually turn the knob to the spin cycle and turn it on.
If it does not spin, replace the lid switch.

If it does spin, replace the timer.

Whirlpool top Loading washing machine won't spin on spin cycle

If the washer won't finish a spin cycle, it probably means that your timer went bad or stalled. You can take the control panel off and look at the contacts for scorching or corrosion.

there should be 2 screw on the left and right side of the console. remove the screws and the console flips back so you can get to the timer. youll have to remove the knob and dial from timer too to get to the screws that hold the timer in place. if you dont have a local appliance parts store in your area then you can order the timer at sears.com and theyll ship it to your house
