Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

Moderate problem Hey, my sister's laptop cannot connect to the internet. Is there anyway that my MP3 player or external hard drive could have done anything to cause a problem? I mean it says that the internet cannot be found nor can the connection, but the connection's connected and everything is right. She claims because i was getting my files off of it, it caused that problem. Could the USB somehow bothered the ISB or whatever the internet is connected from?

Re: Moderate problem

There's no way a USB can cause this problem...Its got nothing to do with network adapters unless internet connection uses a USB powered Wireless Network Adapter..

How to record online music on Toshiba laptop?

You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track. Click on this link for instruction on converting music files to mp3 file format :-

My usb ports on my laptop only recognizes my phone and mp3 player and not my external hdd, it tells me to format the plug and play external hdd. It does not do this in all my usb ports though

Maybe the external hard drive is to large to be recognized by your computer. Some computers won't recognize real large external drives.

Another problem could be that your external hard drive does not support Windows 7.

Maxtor external drive is not recognised by my laptop.

Hi afjtranearth...

Go to Device Manager
To get to Device Manager you will:
Right click on My Computer>Properties>click the Hardware Tab>Device Manager.
After you are in Device Manager look for your MP3 player or hard drive unit.
Here you should see no "Yellow" exclamation points.
If you do they they are telling you that you have a device conflict.
If you currnetly have your unit plugged in, you may notice the "unknown device" which would be your Player or hard drive unit.
If you unit has an exclamation point by it, then you will need to click on it and delete it.
After you remove all devices with conflicts then click on refresh and search again for your MP3 player/ or hard drive unit.
The computer should install your hard drive device this time and solve your problem with connection of the MP3 player/Device.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up.

Only do this if you feel competent in doing so.

Pulling apart laptops is not for the faint of heart.

If you really must do it there are some
good guides here.

Take a
peek here for more ideas of what is involved.

There are a few are tips for various things in there.

I use a cheap 2.5" USB 2.0 case that has the correct connection ie. SATA or IDE. Connect your laptop drive to that. Then connect to a regular PC that has enough space to hold an "immage" copy of your hard drive

I would normally take out the old drive and make an image of it using Acronis or an older version of norton ghost.

I would then put the image onto the new drive and then place the new drive in the laptop. if done correctly your laptop and windows wont even know it was changed.

Once I am sure the new drive is OK i format tho old one put it in the external case and hey presto you have some more storage that you can move between computers.

Playing movies from external hard drive

Hi rox09
Well you can rip your DVD to any external drive using and third party DVD ripping software ,once you do that you will get a AVI,MPEG and any common fomats your DVD player supports

Inorder to play those files in your DVD player ,you need the check whether your DVD has a USB input port or else if you laptop or computer has a S-video out put and your TV has S-Video input ;you can play directly from your laptop/computer to the TV using a S-video Cable which is available in any Computer shop.
I hope this helps

Broke lcd screen on laptop; need update to networked desktop, how?

If I understand correctly, you need to update your laptop??
Or get some files off it??
Anyway, connect an external monitor to your laptop and you can work on it that way. You may need to push a special function key to switch monitors. Check your keyboard.
In any case, connect the external monitor and turn it on, then power up the laptop.

Upgrading the Acer Aspire 3050 80GB Hard Drive to something bigger??

Hey there gothicarcher, this is possible to do on your own. you will need to purchase an external drive case, that does exact copies of drives. You can also use this as an external drive when you are done. You could buy a kit for upgrading that also provides the external drive case and the data copying software you will need ( EZ Upgrade kit ). Next cleanup your old harddrive of any unwanted files, and defragment it. Next, mount the new hard drive (ensure it is compatible with your laptop) in the external case. Connect it to the laptop and transfer the data. Next turnoff laptop, remove battery, and following instructions in your manual, open laptop to access the hard drive. Remove it paying extra attention to the way it mounted and any guides that may be attached. Switch guides from old to new and place new hard drive ensuring all connections are made. From here you are good to go. The old harddrive can be mounted in the external case and used. By the way, you can run programs fom an external, but they still use up some admin space on your main hardrive and the speed of the program can be hindered due to the limitations of the connection, causing the occasional stall. Good Luck! p.s. ensure you have the manuals necessary and follow all software recommendations. Lost data can hurt. Back up on disk anything that can't be replaced easily
