Serial # 10939246EX. The temperature in the 2 door upper compartment is not holding. I normally set it at 4 (medium temp) but had to turn it up to the coldest - 7. Still not functioning. Having to throw out milk, dairy products, etc. This unit is not 2 years old. The freezer section is working just fine. I called Amana Customer Service and a recorded message came on telling me to call back Mon thru Friday. This is Saturday morning and I have been looking for the service manuals that came with the refrigerator, but still can't locate them. Any suggestions on what I need to do? I think the refrig is still under warranty.
My Amana AFD2535DES French Door refrigerator has the same problem. The freezer works but there is no refrigeration. The repair person said the motor that runs the fan to cool the fridge blew out. I bought it January 2006 and it broke down 3 months later. It was still under warranty then so it didn't cost me. Now 2 1/2 yrs later, I have the same problem. This time the repairman said the part will cost $200 plus labor. I just can't afford it and I will just have to do without until I can...
Amana AFD2535DES. Same
problem as described - Freezer & Ice Maker functioning as normal,
but the refrigerator was warm with no cold air blowing through the vent
mounted on the back wall of the refrigerator.
The Repair man replaced the Evaporator fan with Maytag Part number:
12002744 labeled as "Motor Kit - Evap Fan". To install remove freezer
door (Lift), freezer baskets and un-screw the back interior wall of the
freezer. The new fan motor, that is about the size of a fish-tank
pump, will plug in and mount on the existing brackets.
I paid $143.20 total for the repair, $45.00 for the part, $55.00
service fee $35.00 labor + 6% tax. Looked like a simple do-it-yourself
job for those who are having the same problem. Needless to say, I'm
not thrilled that I had this problem on a refrigerator that is 2 years
old, especially after reading on the web that this is a very common
problem. Maytag/Amana won't be considered for my next appliance
Very similar problem but my model number is AFD2535DEB. Freezer is freezing just fine. No cooling air going to the fridge compartment. Damper is open. Not sure where the evaporator fan is but there is a fan on the back at the bottom which seems to run continuously....at least continuously since this problem was discovered.
This comes with a 1 yr warranty from date of purchase. Look and see if there is a thick frost buildup on the back panel in the freezer section. If no frost, shut the freezer door and feel for air flow out of the top middle vent in the fridge section. I would remove that vent cover to make sure the damper is open. If the damper is closed push it open then feel for air flow. If no air flow is detected then the evaporator fan motor is bad which is a very commom problem on this model, in fact the most common problem. If the damper is shut and when you hold it open you do feel air flow then the damper is bad. Let me know what you find.

Check the heater for the refridgerater, if you put the defrost into manual mode (turn the freezer switch to zero several times 2 ) it should go into defrost mode, the heater is located at the bottom of the evaporator (inside the freezer door). If it doesn't go on then the heater or the bimetalic unit are bad.
