I done something like that but i plugged mine out for like a day still had it so i left it for like 2 weeks and couple days then it went away then on that same day i noticed it started coming back and second time so i locked of the tv and went 2 sleep.Next day its back 2 dark shadowy middle and i was told by a friends dad sometimes if u have the brightness of the tv up over 50 or 60 % that can damage or have a magnet round the tv and if u did have 1 round it get it back and in a circle shape move it round anti clockwise and that should fix it . Hope i helped.

Sounds like a bad connection on a ribbon cable or plug comming or going to the LCD display. This is something you should not try to fix as these circuits are very very fradgile and you can easily break or tear a ribbon cable . Call the manufacturer to get a tech to assit you. Good Luck

SOURCE: when the tv has been on awhile
Do the smudges move around or are they in the same position all the time??If they appear in the same position it sounds like you are having a problem with the invertor panel or the back light circuitry. If you could post photo of fault would be helpfull
