Most dryer heat related problems are caused by poor ventilation. This may be a simple matter of some general cleaning...or something more. The following link epxlains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r630242-dryer_runs_but_not_heat

Pay particular attention to the paragraph that discusses ventilation. Try the simple test of removing the exhaust hose from the back of the dryer first to determine if the dryer will dry a load properly without it. If the dryer gets hot and dries properly with the vent hose removed, you have a clog somewhere in your ventilation ducting. If the dryer still performs poorly, you may have some potential problems internal to the dryer. Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope you find this information helpful.

Most dryers dry a large load of laundry in about 45 minutes. If the load takes significantly more time than that, you may have a clogged vent tubing system.

I have samsung dv220aew/xaa dryer, that gets too hot and kicks code HE. New element, thermistor and cleaned thoroughly. Gets hot, codes on all heat settings. Any ideas?

DRYER OVERHEATING:

Heating Element
A defective heating element can make a dryer too hot. If the element partially shorts out, it can produce heat all the time, regardless of whether the dryer is calling for heat. Remove the heating element to inspect it. The coils should not be touching each other or anything else.

Other Causes and Conditions
Air Flow Problem
Dryers need good ventilation to work properly. If the vent is clogged it can make the dryer too hot. Clean all of the vent tubing thoroughly.

Cycling Thermostat
Although not common, a defective cycling thermostat can make the dryer too hot. The cycling thermostat is supposed to turn on and off the heat to maintain the proper temperature. If the thermostat is defective it may keep the heat on too long. The thermostat is not adjustable or repairable, it must be replaced.

Felt Seal
Most dryers have a felt seal at the front and rear of the drum to keep the heat inside the drum. If the felt seal is worn away or missing, the dryer may keep heating and make the dryer too hot. This is not common.

Blower Wheel
A defective blower wheel will not spin properly and will not vent the hot air, making the dryer too hot. Check to see if there is adequate airflow out of the dryer.

No heat pressure out of vents on hot setting, but blows really hard on cold setting...does blow heat just not hard enogh, good heater core and full of coolant

may be something plugging the heater tube itself, maybe a rodent has set up camp, fan resister works both cold and heat fan speeds, unless they have a resister for cold and hot which I have not heard of.

When moter gets real hot it wants to quite running. But when its cold outside it runs just fine.Afriend of mine told me it could be the coil.Is this true?

my concern is about your car getting real hot, if it overheats and you keep running your car,it might result in a blown head gasket or other serious problem, check your cooling sistem, thermostat, etc, clogged radiator or not enogh air circulating thru it. do not run your car if it overheats if it does and cant stop wright away turn your heat all on the hi speed to get to a safe place.

Coils get hot

Hi, as soon as you turn your dryer on, power is sent to these heat strips and they will glow red hot. This is normal. They will kick on and off through the drying cycle by several thermostats in the unit so it will not over heat. Nothing to worry about as you have 240 volts going to them.

Maytag gas dryer, gas shuts off after the 1st heat cycle.

As long as your ignitor is heating up enogh. The most likely cause is the valves are not opening. you can usually get just the solenoids on the valve which is much cheaper than the whole valve and easier to replace. Please rate my response.

Replaced element and now dryer too hot - vent is clear

Hi, Check the element again. It sounds like the element has relaxed and shorted out against the metal housing. The squeak might be the rear bearing cup. You can check and see if it needs grease while you have the drum out.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know.

Thanks
Vic
