Total repair time < 5 minutes 1. Unplug washer 2. Remove top from washer using 9/32" socket wrench (3 screws in back) 3. Locate the white connector panel on back 4. Remove 3rd connector from right in the connector panel (1st from right has 2 wires in it, 2nd from right has 2 wires in it, 3rd from right as 4 wires in it -- all of the wires into my connectors are pink) To remove, push down on top 2 pins then pull out 5. Put the connector back in. 6. Replug in washer and watch it work. 7. Get a sharpie an mark "F/DL" above the connector -- you will be glad you did 8. Put top back on 9. Comment here that "it fixed it for me" 10. Do something nice for someone today -- even just a smile for someone looking down.
I have to do this once every 9 months with my heavily used washer (I have 4 kids).
Hope this works for you.

"Fdl" is a door latch fault code. When you intially start the washer, the door will make several attempts to lock. If the Central Control Unit (CCU) does not detect a door lock, the fault code is generated. The CCU is the main computer (brain) of your washer. This generally means you have a bad door latch. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587965-door_latch_replacement_fdl_error

You may try unplugging the washer for at least 30 minutes, first. This will reset the CCU and clear the fault code in some cases. Some of these faults can be erroneous. If the fault code returns after a CCU reset, you have a legitimate problem.

If a replacment door latch is required, you may purchase a new one at searspartdirect.com, appliancepartspros.com, repairclinic.com, or pcappliancerepair.com. Just type in your model number for your search criteria. All these sites offer great service and have competitive pricing, so shop all of them for the best price. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

"dl" error code means that the ccu(central control unit) is not getting contact at door latch connection. replace your ccu and you will be good to go. bad contacts inside of ccu.

"Fdl" is a door latch failure error code. This is usually an indication that the door latch requires replacement. The manufacturer recommends unplugging the washer for at least 30 minutes to reset the computer. In some cases, the washer will experience momentary "glitches" and can be cleared using this method. You may also want to inspect the door latch wiring to ensure all the connector plugs are intact and not loose or broken. You can access the door latch wiring harness by removing the top panel of the washer. Removing the panel is simple. Just remove the three screws that hald the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off. Locate the door latch assembly behind the front panel on the right hand side. Trace all the connectors from the door latch to the Central Control Unit (CCU) and make sure they are properly seated at both ends. If these preliminary steps do not clear your problem, it is recommended that you replace the door latch. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587965-door_latch_replacement_fdl_error

You can find a replacement latch assembly at searspartsdirect.com or repairclinic.com if you wish to order online. Just type in your complete model number. I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance. Hopefully you can solve your problem without requiring parts.

Here are the steps to unlocking the door manually if clothes are still in the machine.
1.Unplug machine
2.remove bottom panel
3.Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the botttom of the door latch assembly
4.Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear dropped shaped tab
5. Gently pull down on the tab about a 1/4 inch or until a click is heard.
6. You may now open the door.

This code means the door lock mechanism has failed or the central control unit has failed. Replace the door lock mech. first. This should fix the problem. (before replacing anything make sure there is no obstruction around the switch or in the switch.) After the machine has been unplugged it may fix itself. if not replace door lock mech.

1. Unplug washer.
2. Remove the outer portion of the door bellow. This is the gray rubber boot around the door. Feel around the edge of the door bellow where it attaches to the front of the washer. You will find a wire retaining hoop in the seam between the rubber and the front case. Follow this wire hoop to the bottom of the door bellow and you will find a tension spring. Carefully, stretch this spring apart and remove the wire hoop.
3. Pull the rubber bellow from the door facing on the front of the washer being careful not to rip or tear it. Once removed, fold the rubber backwards inside the drum so you can access behind the front panel. DO NOT remove the rubber bellow from the wash tub.
4. The door latch assembly is located behind the front panel of the washer on the right hand side. Locate and remove the three screws on the washer front that hold the door latch assembly in place. The whole assembly should come free from the washer front and be held by a plastic mounting bracket and several wire connectors.
5. Carefully remove the latch assembly from the plastic mounting bracket BEFORE attempting to unplug any wires. It makes it much easier to access if you do.
6. Unplug the wire connectors using care not to break any of the wires. You may want to write them down, but I believe they will only plug into their respective slots.
7. Remove the old door latch and install the new one in the reverse order of the steps I just presented to you. Plug the wires back in first, then place the whole assembly back into the plastic mounting bracket, and then reattach to the front of the washer.
8. Now, when you get the reinstalling the rubber door boot, you may want to get the assistance of a second pair of hands as it can be difficult sometimes to manipulate the wire retainer back into place. Carefully reattach the rubber bellow to the door facing on the front of the washer first.
9. Starting at the top of the door bellow at the 12 o'clock position begin inserting the wire hoop back into the groove. Work your way around with both hands to the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. (This is where you could use those second pair of hands). While holding a slight downward tension on the wire hoop to keep it in place, pull the tension spring apart enough to snap the remaining part of the hoop into place at the bottom. Once you've completed these steps make sure the door closes and latches properly. NEVER slam a door with an electronic latch. They can break easily.

Now plug the washer back in and test operate. NOTE: You can run diagnostics on these washers by referring to the tech sheet provided by the manufacturer. The tech sheet is located behind the lower panel under the door, or along the interior cabinet walls. Included, are instructions on how to run diagnostics and troubleshooting tips associated with the list of fault codes. It is recommended that this tech sheet remain inside the washer to prevent it from being lost.

Washer won't start, makes a clicking noise and than a code comes upF DL

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error “dlf” or f dl means a door latch failure. This means that you’ll need to replace the door latch assembly however before doing that you can leave the washer unplugged for 30minutes so that it resets itself. In the meantime when it’s unplugged just inspect the door latch wiring to ensure all the connector plugs are intact and not loose or broken. You can access the door latch wiring harness by removing the top panel of the washer. To remove the top panel just remove the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, and then lift off. Locate the door latch assembly behind the front panel on the right hand side. Trace all the connectors from the door latch to the Central Control Unit (CCU) and make sure they are properly seated at both ends. If after doing this still the issue is not resolved then unfortunately you have to get the door latch replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

What does DLF stand for? I can't continue my laundry and after pushing cancel several times even holding it in the door won't open. I tried to drain and spin and it says the same code HELP PLEASE

The error code is actually "Fdl". This is an indication of a door latch failure. If the door latch fails to lock, the washer will not complete any wash or spin cycle. The error code can be attributed to either a failed door latch of failed Central Control Unit (CCU). Check for the following:

1. Check the door latch mechanism to make sure nothing is stuck inside preventing it from latching properly.

2. Check the door to make sure the door catch is not broken off. (This is what inserts into the door latch).

3. Listen to see if you can hear the latch attempting to close when you start a cycle. It usually take 4 unsuccessful attempts to lock before an error gets generated. A latch attempting to lock is a sign that the CCU relay may be working.

4. Remove the washer top panel by removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then come off. Inspect the interconnecting wiring between the door latch and the CCU. Disconnect each door latch connector plug (one at a time) on the latch and at the CCU and reseat them. Sometimes a dirty connection can cause erroneous error codes. CAUTION: Make sure you UNPLUG the washer before servicing.

NOTE: There is a technical data sheet that comes with each washer located behind the lower toe panel under the door. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the lower front edge. With the screws removed, the panel will drop down, then come off. If the tech sheet is not located directly behind the panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls. The tech sheet lists all diagnostics, troubleshooting advice, wiring diagrams and error codes. Refer to the tech sheet for test point references.

If you determine you need a new door latch, the following link explains how to replace one:

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare.

I hope I have given you enough information to go by. If you need further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
