Question about Intermatic Malibu 300W Power Pack Transformer ML300RTW

Bugs in my transformer

I have a low voltage light transformer for my outside lights. I just recently replaced the transformer, and now the lights are not working and there is no power coming out of the transformer, but there is going in. When I opened the top of the box there where hundreds of little white bugs and black ones as well (looked like maggets). How do I prevent the bugs from getting inside the transformer, and is this why it isn't working. Can't find any help anywhere.

That is why it's not working,The bugs have shorted it out.It sounds like termites.you can get some spray and treat the area to keep the bugs away.

Humming halogens. I recently installed an electronic low voltage dimmer, 300watt DIVA, to my Kablelight system. I have 4 MR16- 12V- 50 watt bulbs. (200 watts total). When dimmed, the lights hum loudly. I...

Transformer hum with dimmers is a problem. Lutron may offer you an inductor to add to the wire to help. Replacing your 50w bulbs with 12w LED bulbs may help, too. Same light output.

WE have a Lennox furnace that is 3 years old. We also have a Lennox AC that is 14 years old. Recently we had a board go bad on the furnace after a series of power outages and it was replaced. We also...

your furnace uses 115 power & there is a transformer in this unit that powers the low voltage controls. i would say that when they replaced the board they missed some issues with the low voltage control wires. which is likely to be what cause the board to go bad. theses low voltage wires are the only thing that can tell the outside unit to come on. the lights dimming tells me that you have a bad capacitor or need a hard start kit. the lights normally only dim if the compressor doesnt start.

I have a self-installed Leviton TTI06-1LM dimmer (600w capacity) that controls a halogen light that uses 12x 12v/20w (140w total) halogen lights. The dimmer works fine, but once a day, or perhaps every...

Your issue is that the dimmer is not rated to handle the type of fixture/lamps its controlling.

From a lighting control standpoint, the 12V-lamps classify as "low-voltage halogen" and, somewhere in that circuit, have a transformer(s) converting the 120V~ down to 12V~. Using incandescent dimmers (like the one you are using) can cause compatibility issues with those transformers. What I suspect is happening is that the incompatibily is either throwing voltage spikes or current spikes on the line which are causing the dimmer to enter some sort of "safety" mode to shut everything down before any problems occur.

My recommendation is to first figure out what type of transformer it is: Either magnetic low-voltage, or electronic low-voltage. Ideally you would contact the transformer manufacturer (or look up their specs online) to figure that out. Other rules of thumb: if the transformer's big & bulky, it's probably magnetic - conversely if its lightweight, it's probably electronic. If its only one transformer controlling all of the lamps together, it's probably magnetic - conversely if its one of those transformers where the transformer and light bulb come togheter as one assembled unit and then snap into the track, it's probably electronic.

Then make sure the dimmer is rated for magnetic low-voltage, or electronic low-voltage (depending upon what the transformer is).

Unit wont start, flashing lights on indoor unit, fuse may be gone

How old is it? Can you justify spending lots of money on an older system? Sounds like a transformer issue. Sometimes if the low voltage wiring gets shorted outside via dog or weed eater it will short the transformer. But if transformer is on control. Controls are cheap at supply houses maybe not from technicians

What Kind of Dimmer?

If the low voltage lighting system uses an electronic transformer, then a dimmer designed for this type of transformer should be used. Likewise, if the low voltage lighting system uses a magnetic transformer, then a dimmer designed for this type of transformer should be used.
