Does not pick up anything and makes weird noise

Me and my roommate have had this vacuum less than a year and it already does not pick up anything. It makes a bad sound and more particles come out of the vacuum than what is actually picked up. It seems like air is coming out of the bottom. Even the hose won't work. We have had to keep cleaning off the brush to get the hair untangled. we have also cleaned the filter and the canister.

Makes a squealing noise, but doesn't pick anything up. I'm going to try cleaning and inspecting the belt.

hair gets tangled at the belt and it's super dusty at the bottom of the vacuum.

I was vacuuming away when suddenly the motor dimmed from it's piercing high tune to a mild hum... It definitely was not working. I emptied out the airway which was backed up with dust (not reaching the canister), yet am now at a loss as the motor basically sounds dead.

I had the same problem with very low suction and weird noises, the orange light kept coming on.
I always empty the cannister and clean out any hair from the roller. I would take the filter outside and clean it as good as possible. I don't know if I can post a picture on here or not, but I will try. It is unbelievable how much hair comes from long haired girls. Particulary my daughter. Back to the point...
I was cleaning out a drawer one day and came across an extra filter. I put the new filter on, and its like brand new again!
Man, did I feel like an idiot! Just needed a new filter.

Hi everyone, I have the same vacuum and the same problem that you all have stated. Numerous times cleaned out the long hair. You should definitley replace the filter, mine had a crease in the filter, and a bunch of lint and hair was getting deposited on top of the motor airway(just beneath the canister when you remove it). I think the motor just gets too hot due to the hair on the roller and the debris blocking the airway for the motor. After replacing the filter I have not had a problem. Am still cleaning the brush regularly though. Everytime my motor would kick down and start making a different sound I would clean it and let it set til the next day, and it would work. If replacing your filter and cleaning the airway does not work you may need to have the motor worked on. Good Luck

It sounds as if the filter is missing -- Go to a store and look at one - I think you will find that the round filter is missing in the dirt chamber -  the noise that you are hearing is dirt that has gotten trapped in the motor. I think you have clogged the vacuum so that no air is getting through the motor.

It may be able to be cleaned but It is not easy. Also check the price of a new filter

Check the bottom, there is a removable cap which leans to an inner tube. Most of the time this is where all the dirt/hair is trapped and is not visible from the outside.

My vac will not pick up and is making a weird noise. I have a dysonDC 54 bought in May 2014

There are too many things that could cause this to be able to diagnose without a thorough inspection. Take it to your local repair facility.

MY Vacumn seems as though it is not picking anything up. It is also making more noise than usual. I cleaned both the filters and looked to see if something was clogged. Maybe I am missing something. ...

Well check the entire system for dust blocking the air. If it's not in guarantee anymore try checking the main fan, it could be missing some parts. Also, check how much air is going out the vacuum

The belt broke and after putting on new belt I dicscovered the cylinder with the brushes attached wasn't turning. After I finally got the cylinder to turn it makes a very very loud noise and also now it...

Check the cylinder with brushes does not have hair or carpet fibers causing it to bind. With the belt removed the brush should turn freely and fairly easy. The original belt probably broke because of this. You may have to fully dis-assemble the head of the vacuum to clean the entire brush assembly.

The main problem is a weird noise caused by the brush not spinning on the carpet like it used to do strongly leaving a sweep mark on the carpet, which helps pick up the dust through suction. Seems to have lost the power, so I raised it, but it still doesn't pick up that well. What should I do, I already checked the belt, ripped all linen spinned on the brush. It just doesn't leave that mark on the carpet after being swept, it just stops. What should I do? Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. A couple of the problems you seem to be having is that the belt is stretched out and not picking up well and the other is the brushroll is not spinning freely in order to pup the dust and dirt. The average flat belt change is every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and the check your brushroll to see if that spins freely if not it is probably bound up with thread and hair and needs to be cleaned off @ every belt change. If the belt is tight it cleans well and the brushroll does not get a chance to wrap around the brushroll and slow it down. All part of the maintenance of a vacuum cleaner. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
