Question about Eureka 431A Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum
Me and my roommate have had this vacuum less than a year and it already does not pick up anything. It makes a bad sound and more particles come out of the vacuum than what is actually picked up. It seems like air is coming out of the bottom. Even the hose won't work. We have had to keep cleaning off the brush to get the hair untangled. we have also cleaned the filter and the canister.
I had the same problem with very low suction and weird noises, the orange light kept coming on.
I always empty the cannister and clean out any hair from the roller. I would take the filter outside and clean it as good as possible. I don't know if I can post a picture on here or not, but I will try. It is unbelievable how much hair comes from long haired girls. Particulary my daughter. Back to the point...
I was cleaning out a drawer one day and came across an extra filter. I put the new filter on, and its like brand new again!
Man, did I feel like an idiot! Just needed a new filter.

Hi everyone, I have the same vacuum and the same problem that you all have stated. Numerous times cleaned out the long hair. You should definitley replace the filter, mine had a crease in the filter, and a bunch of lint and hair was getting deposited on top of the motor airway(just beneath the canister when you remove it). I think the motor just gets too hot due to the hair on the roller and the debris blocking the airway for the motor. After replacing the filter I have not had a problem. Am still cleaning the brush regularly though. Everytime my motor would kick down and start making a different sound I would clean it and let it set til the next day, and it would work. If replacing your filter and cleaning the airway does not work you may need to have the motor worked on. Good Luck

It sounds as if the filter is missing -- Go to a store and look at one - I think you will find that the round filter is missing in the dirt chamber - the noise that you are hearing is dirt that has gotten trapped in the motor. I think you have clogged the vacuum so that no air is getting through the motor. It may be able to be cleaned but It is not easy. Also check the price of a new filter Ralph firstname.lastname@example.org

Check the bottom, there is a removable cap which leans to an inner tube. Most of the time this is where all the dirt/hair is trapped and is not visible from the outside.
