Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a carrier Modle No. 38YXA042300. I am getting an H5 error message on my Thermistat Control. I have run the Fan only mode and the fan in the air handler unit works fine. On the unit when I ingage the manual override, the condener unit and fan motor runs and cools. The unit will not run when I put the Thermidistat on Cool mode. Can you help me. AlvinInside unit fan works; outside unit does not come on. Inside unit showed H5 code once. How do I proceed?

H is most likely for heat pump, meaning error 5 on outdoor unit. My guess would be low pressure since your power to the indoor unit most likely comes from the outdoor unit. Check manual for codes or research model number error codes.

Hi,I am really hoping to find someone to help me if possible. I have a one year old carrier infinity 4ton 17seer condenser and a 5ton variable speed air handler. I has worked fine but now i am getting a...

Hi,
If this si what I am thinking it is, it will be very hard to find and prove....
The compressor windings have aflat spot and if the motor stops at the right place it will not atart. The voltage goes way up and kicks out the thermal over load and gives you the alarms that you are getting.
The motor cools down and you reset the unit, the motor has moved just a tick trying to start the last time so now it is off of the bad start spot and will take off and run till it stops at the bad spot again....
Did that make any sense???
Long story short your compressor is going bad...problem will be to get it changed under waranty and convincing the installing company that you have a problem that requires a compressor replacement...
See if you can get them on a short leash and have them come before you reset the alarms and hopefully maybe they can catch what it is doing...
This is and will be a tough one... I've been there with a customer or two already... no fun... trying to figure things like this out!

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

My Carrier 58SXC keeps running but with no heat. The fan will not shut off. I checked the thermistat and it is not in the on position. Any suggestion? Thank you

Hi, it sounds like the fan control is stuck on or faulty. This controls the fan in the heat position. What happens is on a call for heat at the t-stat, the burners come on then after a delay, the fan control set at a preset temperature, brings on the fan. When the T-stat and room are up to the desired setting, the T-stat sends a signal back to the main gas valve to shut off. The fan is supposed to run for 45 seconds or so to cool the heat exchanger down and shut off the fan at a preset temperature. It is called and fan/ limit control. Looking at the furnace, depending on the unit, you will see a rectangular box some with a button on them that says manual/ auto, that has a probe inserted into the fire box. It rotates and has a temperature dial with settings on it from the factory. You can see them by removing the cover. There are several types, but you will know it when you see it. You can turn off the power and gently pull it out and clean with a brush. Gently rotate the dial back and forth and hear it click, this is what shuts the fan off.It may not have the dial type.If its a Honeywell it will. After cleaning it, reinsert and restore power. Run it through a heat cycle and see if the fan stops when it is supposed to.If it continues to run, you will need to replace it.You can find one at a appliance parts house or air conditioning supply.Read the instructions when installing. The Honeywell type has a metal strip that has to be cut before you operate it for 24volt control. If you don't, it will send 120 volts through the low voltage controls, burning them out.Remember how it is wired, or draw and mark your wires. Its really not to difficult, but try and clean it up first. It may be ok if you do. They do tend to stick, and lets hope that will solve you're problem. Please let me know, and keep me posted. Good Luck,
Shastalaker7

Evap. fan motor stays on

Sounds like the control board is bad. Does the fan try to run when the tstat is off. Did you check the tstat. What kind of voltage are you getting at the fan motor. Did you check the capacitor. If you are getting voltage to the motor with no call for fan then the control board is bad. Let me know if you need any more.
