1) Does your laptop see any wireless networks? If yes then you know the laptop wireless adapter is working. If not, you need to look at the properties for the wireless adapter in the laptop. This may be disabled or misconfigured.
2) If step 1 proves the laptop is seeing other networks, can you verify that the router is actually broadcasting a SID? You may need to login to the router and verify the wireless configuration is correct.
Good luck and if you need more help please reply with the router make/model number along with the laptop make/model and the operating system you are using.

We have a 3000 sq ft split level house, so range is critical (could we extend range with antennas, access points)?
Stability and reliability are also critical
We use a comcast cable modem
Must support mixed environment - 2 Macs connecting wirelessly, 2 PCs (1 with a wired connection)
We all want to be able to share a printer (which will connect to router with a wired connection)
Network attached storage, media streaming - I'm not worried about these now, looking for basic connectivity. Though would be great if I could grow into this in the future...

I have an Apache server running under Cygwin on a Windows XP system with a Westel Proline E90-610030-06 DLS modem with IP passthrough turned on and dynamic IP internet service through AT&T. When I open a browser and enter the URL http://74.190.89.100/, I get the default "It Works!" web page; but no one else outside my local home network can see the default web page. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong (yes I know I have to reset the IP every time my Dynamic IP changes and I've verified this is the correct IP for today)?
