Instructions for removing Mandrel from Husqvarna Model YTH24

There should be 3 (or 4 dependent on model) mounting bolts holding the mandrel assembly onto the deck. These are self taping bolts and if the mandrel is a couple years old, these bolts normally break when you remove them. The new assembly should come with new mounting bolts.

Air conditioner/heater fan won't turn on

This is usually a "blower motor resistor". Follow the wires from the heater blower across the underhood Firewall. The wire will plug into a part with 2 mounting bolts. 90% of this part is hidden within the ductwork cavity.

Sometimes if you tap the part with a broom handle or snowbrush handle, it will resume working.

Sad part about this is the new part may do the same thing and you have only the Warranty period to protect you. So the old part may function reliably after tapping it and outlast the new part.

Go to a Ace Hardware store or an automotive store and get a tap for the size of the bore and a tap handle. The tap will re-thread the bore.

I'm replacing the mandrel housing on the deck. the new housing has no threads in it. Can i tap threads and use regular bolts to mount housing to deck.

The old bolts in the old spindle should be self-tapping. Put a little oil on them and screw them into the spindle. Otherwise, yes, you can tap them and use any good quality grade 5 bolt.
Good luck!

I am replacing the mandrell housing the replacement housing does not have threads in the mounting holes. Are they self tapping or do I need to replace with bolts?

You didn't indicate any model or brand. If the housing goes in from the bottom and the bolts from the top, then it's nice for them to be threaded so you don't have to get under the machine, and nothing more to catch grass on. If the mandrel housing sits on top of the machine, I'd use carriage bolts from the bottom with nuts on top.

Craftsman mandrel replacement::?????HELP

You dont have to drop the deck. Remove the belt first then hold the blade in place so you can loosen the nut on top of the pulley. after you remove the pully then remove the blade. There are 3 bolts holding the mandrel in place remove the bolts. Then pull the mandrel out from underneath the mower deck. There is a shroud that will come loose with it or it may stick from accumilated grass regardless it needs to go back during reassembly. When putting it back together the 3 bolts are usually self tapping into the new aluminum mandrel. Its much easier to put these in and take them out before you install the new mandrel as the bolts cut the threads.

Hope this helps

Do mandrels on 48'' deck come threaded for mount or not?

Most of the time you get self tapping screws with them or if you want you could get bolts nuts and washers (,lock) make sure the shafts and height are right.
