Question about Jensen 8.5'' Overhead DVD Player Package (MVB85) Car Video Player

Open Question

Trouble reading discs keeps saying Bad Disc

I purchased a floor model Jensen MV85 from Circuit City right before they went out of business. When I hooked it up I had a problem with it reading a disc, I bought a DVD cleaner and after many attempts I got it to work. It now has stopped working again and I was wondering is there any thing else I can do to correct this?

SOURCE: jensen vm 9410

some of the newer dvd's are made double layer and recently they've been working on triple layer dvd's. basically a single layer dvd holds 5gb of information, a dual can hold 10gb and a triple can hold 15gb (those are approximates). by making it more layers, they can put the fullscreen and the widescreen edition on the same movie disc. some of the 'lower end' dvd players don't have the capabilities to play these dual or triple layer discs.

SOURCE: brake override Jensen vm9212

Are they "burned" DVDs? The brake override will only allow video to come through the screen it won't make the unit not read them.

SOURCE: KEEPS SAYING BAD DISC

The Disc is not being read by the optical head and so the processor says there is errror in gettting data.
the most possible chance even after cleaning of the lens eye of the optical unit is to replace the laser head ( optical ) assembly.
Make sure that you are installing a new one with precaution , not forgetting to remove the static short in the new head before installation.

Get display : NO DISC or BAD DISC

Probably the laser lens needs cleaning.
Purchase a laser lens cleaner disc at Radio Shack ($13). No chemicals are involved.
Read & follow the instructions. It cannot harm the player if not done right.

the laser tracking has gone bad...have you tried doing a lens cleaning? try to use a cd lens cleaner if it will help. A good technician might be able re-calibrate the laser tracking error.

Purchased tv from circuit city when going out of business was told warranty would begin on date of purchase from manufacturer. 30 days later tv went black. manufacturer says they don't warranty product...

Your warranty should very well be honored and yes, the warranty does start right when you leave the store as long as you have the original receipt, otherwise, they might just honor the production date via serial number. If you have the original receipt, then you need to tell them this and speak to someone higher up, like a manager. It is not your fault Circuit City went out of business.

Why won't it play

I'm having the same problem with my unit but it didn't happen right away and I bought this off of a friend. It slowly happened over time where it would get worse. I took it apart and there was a plastic piece out of place so now it will play dvds but still says bad disc to my cds even though I cleaned the lens on it. Any type of solution would be great.

Has trouble reading discs (intermitant) when burning

There are two common causes for these kinds of problems: software doesn't match, or media doesn't match. also, there a lack of info in here. is drive capable of reading dvd's when it is used for other purposes? 1. are you sure you got the right firmware? check for updates on brand site or on google. 2. try using several types of media from diffrent brands. some drives cannot read specific media (for instance, sony drivers sometimes having trouble with JVC media). 3. the least common, but worst option by far is a hardware problem. if drive is bad, you should try and replace it in case your warrenty didnt expire.
