If that's hooked to comcast you can only have one computer hooked up to it, and no modems as they block mac address. If you are a Comcast customer there is a workaround. Turn on your wife's wireless if she hasit, if not get her a wireless card USB is easiest. Turn on sharing on that wireless card and you will be able to access the internet through your wifes computer, and not run afoul of your Comcast agreement. Or request an upgrade to a wireless router from Comcast but your rent goes from $3.00 per month to $10.00!

You can hook a wireless router up to comcast.. you would use an Ethernet cord to go from the comcast modem to the wireless router. you would have to hard wire to get the router going, If the router came with a disk, run it and follow the step by step instructions on disk.

Hello
Try updating the firmware on the router.You need to log into the router using 192.168.1.0

Username =admin
password = admin or the word password.

Once in the routers home page check for updates and download and install.Also be sure any firewalls are not blocking the signal.
While your in the router set up a personal wep key for your wireless security.

Your best bet is to use a wireless extender, this will extend the range.
Google search for these devices.

Router issues in my apartment.

When to moved into the penthouse, there are more walls between the wireless router and the laptop in the bedroom. The walls are probably reinforced concrete walls which will stop or weaken the radio waves penetrating into different rooms. When you lived in a house this was not a problem.
The only way to solve this problem is to move the wireless router near an opening such as a door and move the laptop as close as possible to the wireless router to get a better signal strength.
The outer way is to install a wireless repeater or connect a long network cable to the router and the laptop.
