Check your compression. if you have a two cyl engine, start it and ground out each cyl (or pull off the plug) see if engine changes the rpms if one don't change check spark and compression on that side. if you only have one cyl go back to checking compression. get back to me with what you find. ps check your belts to mack sure nothing is in the pulleys like a stick and check under your deck to make sure you don't have a grass build up.

Won't power up when clutch is engaged for mower deck

Something is binding in the mower deck area, perhaps and stuck bearing, bearing needs greased, stick or stone or big clod of grass caught between blade and deck or belt and pulley..
Disconnect to spark plug, and use a stick or something to spin blades manually. MAKE SURE spark plug is disconnected before EVER messing with blades. Motor could spin one time around accidentally and cut off your fingers. Disconnect plug wire and or remove plug to be absolutely sure before messing with blades. I'll say it again REMOVE plug wire from plug before inspecting blade area.

Loss of power when blades engaded.

Remove deck belt from blade pulleys and Tri to spin blades by hand. If they don't spin freely, you probably need new spindle bearings but if you do need a new spindle I would replace the whole spindle housing... Just make sure the one (s) you buy has housing, spindle, bearings, nut and washer.

You can check the belt tention, between the deck and the chassis just to see if it is loose, it would reqire removing the deck to replace the belt.

I have a 2000 Johne Deere Sabre 2046 HV and need a belt routing diagram and belt size

Hi Amy,

I also have a 46" Sabre deck and replaced my belt. The easiest way to describe is that the belt runs directly between the outer 2 blades across the back of the deck and threads through the front pulleys. Once I saw that detail, I was able to save a $40 belt install charge. Hope this helps someone. Cheers, Dean.

I have a john deere sabre 15.5/42 and cant figure out how to put the deck belt back on

Remember to always put the V side of belt (inside of belt) into the pulleys and put the flat side of belt (outside of belt) up against the idler pulley (the one that moves to make belt tight to engage blades) Make sure you have the right belt and follow those guidelines and the belt should go right on. If you happen to have alot of slack then you have to figure out a different routing around the idler. Make sure the blades are NOT engaged. When on properly the belt will be snug.

Let me know if this helps.

Loss of power when mower engaged

this is usually caused by a dirty restricted fuel filter as the engine has more demand put it with the deck engaged change filter and install with the arrow pointing to the carb
